You will find MANY reports about the K&N Filters using the Search tool. Most people report a definitive improvement.

My dealer couldn't even get an oil change right and reset the FSS...do you really think there is some magical adjustment they make after the first service to increase power? I don't but I wish...

By no means am I an automotive expert but I have never heard of such a thing where the dealer turns the motor up after a break-in period.

Well if small adjustments can make a difference! and i'm not a mechanic ,but i can tell if a car runs a little smoother or with better response.I think it's mostly in throttle controls and i know certain cars have adjustments on that!I haven't asked yet on the xfire next week.

Very true... but I don't think it's something a dealer would do on a routine service unless you asked to check it out or if you were having a problem.

Most people would never ask a dealer something regarding such adjustments unless they had a problem but for as this forum answers alot of questions it also makes for alot questions .You get 100s of people talking about 1 car and that creates more info that dealers really don't get from their own customers ,and in reallity this is good for all. Some people don't care ,some care to much,as far as i'm concerned fixing the little things takes a good car and makes it a great one. Like LEXUS ads says the pursuit to perfection!

I will try to pin my service mamnager down next Friday, I have to go back to the dealer to pick up a bra I ordered. All I can say is he had a funny grin on his face when he said I needed an oil change. I think I'm smart enough and sensitive enough to know when my car runs better. Something made a big differance. Sorry AZFIRE you have dealer problems but mine has been great. So, will let you all know what I find out. (If he talks)

Yep, that's true. I have had my share of dealer problems. Let us know if there is some secret tweak that can be made to increase power after the first oil change or if there was something wrong that they fixed and now your car is running as it should be. Thanks for checking into it.

Hello again, I'm still here in Stuttgart Germany. The auto bahn has been very kind. I am now friends with the service tech here. I called him yesterday and ask why the car felt faster. He advised that it was a program they learned here at the Daimler Chrysler course and that he promised to adjust it a little more on Monday. Well it's 0400 hrs Monday and I'm finishing up a 24 hour shift. I will meet Nicolaus (service tech) at 1000 hrs. I will post all that apply to this subject then.

One other explanation to the sudden change in throttle:

When I was getting my XF chipped, they told me to leave
the driver's side door open with the key in the 'ON'
position for a few minutes. (NOT while the car is
running). IE get in the car, put in the key and turn it
to the on position without starting, leaving the door
open.

If you pop the hood in this state, you can 'hear' the
throttle recalibrating itself.

I'm wondering if some who've suddenly noticed a difference
(after leaving car at airport or servicing) is merely the
result of the automatic throttle adjustment. It would only
make sense, since service will likely have the door open,
etc.

Just a thought.

Ok so I returned to the service team and Nick was gone out with a customer to test drive the p.t. cruiser. I did my best to talk with the tech but there was a serious language barrier. After 15 minutes of trying the tech attempted to show me what took place. There is a hand-held machine that I believe all the chrysler techs have. It appears to be a diagnostic machine of some sort. Well again he connected this under my dash (driver side-near hood latch) the screen came alive with percentages and other information. From what I could make out he adjusted something with the engine then reset the smart tranny system. Then he punched some more keys. I tried my best to get him to explain but that language barrier is a real problem. I phoned Nick the one services tech that speak english and he told me to come in tomorrow for a free car wash and detail and he would explain. Nick did say that they would not adjust the system more than they have for warranty purposes. I'll post what I can once I see Nick. My car rides great.

Regarding the automatic throttle recalibration:

I'm going on the word of the tech that installed my
chip (Rene from Upsolute). He told me to do this
after installing the chip so it would re-calibrate the
throttle. Said it would go through this recalibration
whether the chip was installed or not.

I just did this, and heard the clicking noises. Don't know if this really made any "seat of the pants" noticeable differences. Can't hurt...right? I'll do this before I autoX from now on... Any statement about this in the repair manual???

I'm asking some corvette engineers that I know if "they" would do something like: reduced HP during break in period < 3k miles and the throttle reset...
