Default Oil Change Info

So I am looking to get an oil change for a NA crossfire and was contemplating if taking it to MB would be my best option. I do not want to bring it to the local Chrysler dealer as I haven't had a good experience with them when my car was having problems with random shutoff (RCM - thank god for this forum) and one of the mechanics pretty much acknowledged that a bunch of idiots works there. This is gonna be the first oil change under my ownership so I don't know if the car even needs one but id rather be safe. Also, what has become the norm on the forums when it comes to the frequency of oil changes.

PS. I am in north NJ if anyone has recommendations...

Many here do the work themselves.

One way to do it is to buy the 9 qts of Mobil 1 0W40 oil and a filter and carry it in to a trusted shop. Or even a Quicky Oil Change place if they'll do it with you watching. Labor costs only.

As Steve said, most of the MB dealers don't want one of our red headed step children being seen on one of their lifts. They must think it will give legitimacy to the fact that the car is damn near a mercedes, and that is something they don't want the public to know LOL

Go to a trusted Euro repair shop and take your oil and fleece filter, that is the only way to ensure our not very common oil finds its way into your car...

The orings are supplied with the new filters. Make sure, as said, to buy a "fleece" filter as opposed to a paper filter.

Mann, K&N, and Purolator make fleece. make sure with the Purolator, as they also make a paper.

K&N P/N HP-7004

Mobil 1 P/N M1C-253

Mann P/N 718/5

The filter element comes with a small bag containing new O-rings. They are used to replace those on the center shaft of the filter housing on which the filter element is installed. Another thing you need to consider doing is replacing the oil plug washer (original equipment is a copper crush washer that can result in oil drips if not replaced each oil change). You only need 8 quarts Mobil 1 OW-40 (or other oil that meets specs). Even though the specified capacity is 8.5 quarts, you can never drain all the oil out during an oil change. Your Crossfire should require exactly 8qts be added.

I wait until the Service Indicator (FSP?) tells me to. ~ 7000 Miles.

I'm not too sure about Rob's engine, but mine has always taken 8.5 qts.

8.0 qts is generally the more accurate amount of oil to add when changing. The reason for 8 qts instead of 8.5 (total capacity) is because not all the oil will drain or be pumped out during a typical oil change. One or more forum members have actually reported "HI" oil level computer readings after adding 8.5 qts. 8 qts added should result in a manual dipstick reading somewhere in the upper half of the acceptable range. Plus, you save approximately $3 each time you change your oil.

Or, buy an extractor and never worry about crawling under the car to drain oil again.
