Angry Tire Pressure sensor

My tire pressure warning light is on after several attempts checking the air in the tires. The two front tires read properly 32 and the two rear tires read properly 33. They are not leaking. The warning light will not go off. Is there anything else that could cause this warning light to activate, or is it a bad sensor somewhere?
Thanks guys.

I was told that you can run a strong magnet around the valve stem and this will make the light go out. I tried it on my 04 and indeed the warning light went out. Not sure if this did not screw something up, but the light has not come on since. I check my tires for correct pressure with a gage at least every month and they don't leak. I think the car dealers have a computer for resetting them, but the magnet is free

Have you taken the car out for a drive since you balanced the air??? The light will not go out until the tires are run a few minutes for the sensors to send the data to the computer and turn off the light...

Can any decent Tire place reset the TPMS on the Xfire, or can only the Dealer do this with their fancy equipment...

I would like to think this can be done by any reputable Tire place...???

+1 especially if it is an older model, it is right about that time for them to die...

I'm not to sure of this statement. My tires went down a bit on my car during its winter 'rest' and the light went on. I inflated the tires to the correct pressure and the light was out when I started her up. Hmmmm?

+1 Back in 07 when my tpms was working, I pulled into a gas station early morning with the light on. with the car still running, I checked and fill the tires and it went off immediately.

I started this thread and I was just wondering about Jerry Rosewicz's post right after mine in the beginning of this thread. You claimed that this worked on your 04 so I am just requesting more detailed instructions on how to use the magnet to do this. I have some pretty powerful magnets, will this reset the sensor? Should the car be cranked? How far away should North be from the sensor itself? Please let me know, thanks everyone.

I'm gonna try that magnet thing too, but you could easily disable it as well.

I don't want to disable it, I would like to know when my tire is getting too low. It is just not functioning properly. If I could get some detailed instructions on how to do the magnet thing it would be great.

When I first joined this forum in 08, the used car dealer that I bought my Crossfire from said I might have to go to Chrysler dealer to make the TPMS light go out. I did a search on this forum and someone else suggested the magnet trick. I believe my car was parked and ignition off and I took a U-shaped magnet and I held it with the legs of the magnet pointing toward the valve stem and twisted the magnet around the stem in a 360 degree circle. I believe my left front tire had been low and triggered the sensor. I can't remember if I did this to the other 3 valve stems as when I started the car the TPMS light was out.

Give it a try. I don't see how this can damage anything, but it should reset the TPMS. Try doing a search; Iwill too. Jerry

If you have an 04, the battery in the tpms is probably toast.

The magnet thing from what I've read only works if all the sensors are original and battery is functioning.

So the magnet reset may not always work, but it is worth a try and can do no harm to the TPMS.

Cool Re: Tire Pressure sensor

The magnet fix does not always work.

Since your car is an 04 there is a good chance that one or more of your batteries are dead.

Any tire shop should be able to reset the TPMS.

A sudden temperature change will also trip the TPMS. If this is the case have your tires filled with nitrogen, which is more temperature stable.

The dealer said need 4 tpms sensors. Can the batteries be changed(2004)? And read that the valve stem is the antenna and metal caps(not crossfire valve caps) will cause problems?

unfortunately I dont believe the batteries can be changed... they just replace the sensor.... the batteries will eventurall go on all the sensors....Schrader makes a new EZ sensor that any tire shop can program by reading your existing sensor and programing the new one... I was just talking to an Americas/Discount Tires guy about this yesterday... if your sensor is dead that might not work so well....

metal valve caps wont affect the operation... mine came with metal caps and I have new, purty aluminum ones on it now....

I had metal valve caps on mine too. Damn thing rusted on one. When I tried to twist it off with a pliers I broke the stem. Had to have it replaced at the dealer and they couldn't reset the light either because they didn't have the tool to do it. Had to take the car over to another Chrysler dealer and have them do it. But I don't understand why the dealer wants the OP to replace all four sensors. They should only replace the bad one. The part was about $78.00 and with labor it came out to a little over $160.

the dealer probably wants more of his money....

the EZ sensors are $60 each at Americas/Discount Tires.... plus labor of course..I would just wait till I replace the tires if mine went bad... as my car is now 6 years old I will probably put in new sensors when I change the tires again, BEFORE they go dead....
