Quick launch without killing yourself
Why is it when you take off in first, and quickly shift to second on a perfectly straight road the back end of the car squirms and you almost end up sideways? with transaction control on it always limits the revs for about a second when you shift into 2nd, and with it off it's pretty dangerous.

I have a 6 speed ( with 265 winter tires on the back right now ....pretty sticky), I never turn the traction control off. When I give it all it's got (on dry ground) the TC never comes on....never, I sense no rev drops induced by the TC....no squirm....just 2nd gear scratch (chirp). On slick ground I can sometimes detect the TC clamp down on the rear brakes for a split second.
Are your tires bald?

the open rear end is probably the reason for the back end stepping out. I have to turn the traction control off to get my car to launch. With it on if feels like some one reached over turned my key off everytime I hit the gas. It also gets a good launch with less wheel spin when I have the trans in winter mode. I need a wave track or Quaiffe! I have more low end grunt than I can get to the groung, but I am ready for more top end performance.
I can launch my car with "transaction control" off and yes it does slightly go side ways but as long as you keep in it and the road is smooth it will come back. Maybe your "transaction control" needs looked at.... I bet the dealership would love your money!!! lol If it doesnt come back its fricken rear wheel drive with a heavy front end let off the gas for split second and your side ways world will return to normal....

Maybe you should take "Doc's" advice.
Or at least wait until it stops raining.
Yes I am fireamx, especially when changing to 2nd within half a second, my old seat leon cupra 1.8turbo would absolutely kill my crossfire up to 50mph and I could sense what the car was doing back there.

If you're talking about it going a little sideways when it shifts from 1st. to 2nd., that's just because the tires are braking loose from the pavement, and the torque keeps the tire spinning and it is quite literally "screwing" the back end of your car sideways until it can get a good enough "Bite" to continue pushing your car forward again.
Imagine what a SRT6 driver has to put up with.
I'd suggest better tires.
Good Luck
I think he is saying that 2nd gear transmits more torque to the road than first does. It is indeed much easier to lay rubber/ get sideways in 2nd than first. It has something to do with the clutch design. Franc has talked about it before. The cure is expensive I hear.
