Ouch $119 for an oil change.
When we know how easy it is to perform on any cars...
We pay premiun for mobil 1 or amsoil but as a retailer they may pay 50% of what we pay for the oil.
Let's. Say that they pay $5 for a mobil oil filter... they pretty much make $85/90 profit"""
Unscrew the oil cap then the oil filter then the oil pan. Wait... wait wait more
Replace with new oil filter, new oil rings... new synth oil.
DONE... $119
Yeah right

The $10 off 5 quarts at Autozone is a rip.......they want $8.79/ quart....-$2 = $6.79......you can get it cheaper at Walmart without a coupon. Last year around XMAS Advance had it for $4.
Some Walmarts carry the Mobil 1 0w-40, one near me has an advertised Full-Syn oil change for about $54 that is up to 5 quarts & they said in my case they would use the Mobil 1. I said well this car takes 8 quarts...the guy said I would have to pay for 3 more quarts...that's reasonable. I also said you don't have the correct filter, but I can bring one in ....he said they would knock 2 or 3 bucks off (the filter they would have used).
So, on any old day....you can get an L25277 Purolator filter at Advance Auto for $12 (open the box & see that's it really says MANN HU 718/5) ...this is THE correct filter Kit!!!
$12 filter
$52 Syn oil change at Walmart (includes 5 qts Mobil 1 0w-40)
$19 for the 3 additional qts M-1 0w-40)
-------
=$83 + tax
Granted, you can usually find better deals on the oil & the filter & you can change it yourself....But,
anyone should be able to get it done <$90 & not even get their hands dirty.
Last year around XMAS I got 24 qts of the oil from internet sales at local Advance Autos for $4 each, bought a bunch of the Mann filters online for <$10 each & I usually pay a local shop about $15 to do the change....I only have them put in 8 quarts..(9 oil changes on the 07 & 3 on the 08 so far)....you don't need to put in 8.5 quarts.
So the last 4 changes or so have only cost me < $60 each & I never got dirty.

You get dirty changing oil? You are doing something wrong.
And I would prefer to do it myself. I know the oil filter Orings will be properly placed so it won't leak oil and throw the serpentine belt off coming home. I know the next time I take the drain plug out, the threads won't come out with it because of over tightening. I know that if the drain plug washer is questionable, I will replace it. I know that 8½ quarts will put it exactly on full, not short.
I can't put a price on a piece of mind knowing it was done correctly and complete.

James, are you somewhat implying that the technician at Wal-Mart may somehow screw up an oil change on a car he has probably never worked on? Say it isn't so...
I am with you, my friend. I prefer to do it myself and know it is done correctly. Between the o-rings, crush washer, and properly tightening everything to spec, I would trust very few, and wal-mart's auto department would not be on the list....

At the Walmarts around here you can stand 8- 10 feet from the car, watch every move the guy makes & talk to him while he's doing the change. Same thing at the regular garage I have it done at for $15 labor.
I'm just saying that there is no good reason to pay a Chrysler dealership $130 or more!!! Fred's first oil change was free from the dealership...& I couldn't get anywhere near to watch what they were doing.
With 8 quarts my dipsticks always read at the very top of the full markings, I've put almost 70,000miles on the 07 since I bought it new & just before oil changes it still reads right at the top of the mark. Electronic checks also always read OK. Always change it when the FSS says 1 to 2 thousand miles left....so they go 7,000 & usually say it can go another 1-2 thousand.
