Our Cars Are Already Classics... ?
Not many Cars make people stop in Their Tracks turn around and come back to discuss.
This happens to Me monthly! at the gas Station. The parking lot of the Seahawks game. the Grocery Store. The Golf course or Families Houses.
Last month Laurie and I were having dinner on the Patio of our Middle Son's House. ( His Wife is a fantastic Cook) Dinner was served and We were laughing and Eating Joyfully when I noticed a Beautiful Blue S2000 Cruise By toward the front of His House ( He has a Large corner lot where the road splits.) I Heard It stop and then They reapeared coming the other direction and turned up the Y headed for the rear deck Smiling and waveing. " Who Owns that Beautiful Crossfire?" they Asked.
I believe when People driving Nice cars want to stop and Discuss Your Car, It already is a Classic.

Some cars you just KNOW are bound to become classics. I felt that way about 65 GTO's and 65 Mustangs, 57 Chevy's and some others. I think it's safe to say that the Crossfire will be in that group. Sometimes I'll think back about the cars I've owned and wished that I had been able to hang on some of them. Now that I can afford to sit on the Crossfire I simply don't have the time left. So I just beat the hell out of it. I've been lucky in the last couple of weeks. I've played with a Charger Hemi, a Mustang 5.0, a 79 Porchse SC and another Mustang that had some Race'n team sticker on his back window.
Is it a classic now? I don't think so. But I think it has the characteristics to become one, one day. It's history alone is an important datapoint. The fact that it's the only product from the Benz/Chrysler marriage that came to fruition, it's marketing flop, and it's beautiful lines make it a candidate for sure.
I can see why no one would think of our Crossfire’s as classic yet. It is still too young. The 2004 will hit 10 years old soon, and then we might see the start of being called classic. In Idaho, you may receive a classis license when the car turns 50, not before. I am one of those 60 plus folks and yes I might never see the Car a classic, but my Grandson Or Daughter will, why? I will keep the car in the best looking, running condition ever. Pride will help me. I love the complements especially when I saw just recently a girl taking pictures of it in a grocery parking lot. I asked he what she was doing, and she told me she takes pictures of very nice cars for her scrap book to share with her grandfather. Wow, this girl was no older than 12 and she really thought the car “pretty”.
Yes, I would tell anyone this is the best time to buy the Crossfire’s for it is a buyers market, and soon one day (it always happens) the economy will get better and for those who think “classis” is about how valuable your car is, will see the price come up. Used cars are selling almost 4 to 1 over new cars. I could have bought a T-Bird but, when I saw the Crossfire and the price it was a steal! Loved it so much, 3 months later found even a better deal, and bought one for the wife. We both love them.
Classic? Maybe for some, but for my family see you on Cruise nights, parades, and just driving to see grandkids. Just about every rest stop someone has to ask, or make a comment. That is what a classic is all about.

Only thing you must know... There is another car that was created from the merger. The Pacifica is also more Benz than Chrysler. But I doubt that will ever become a classic. Even some of th previous model jeep grand Cherokees share some parts with Benz. But in your defense... I think the crossfire is the closest cousin to a Benz that you will ever find... And that is why I think it will be remembered by car fanatics.
black, after listening to the engineers that headed the project for Chrysler, while attending the Woodward meet. I can say positively, it is all Benz. Karmann was contracted to built it, so it was built in Germany, this we can all agree. The SRT's have an AMG drivetrain, whether our AMG owners like it or not, they were contracted to build the motors. The suspension which was said to be out dated technology wasn't at all. It was similar technology with a different steering component. Chrysler guys would spend time there, but it was a German build all the way. MB won't claim it, and neither will Chrysler, so it is destined to be what it is. A fun car to drive, but, collectability...just don't see. Those who stashed them away are even starting to sell them now, rather than wait. Drive them like you stole them, as some of us did...

if you have the money and can find a very very low millage crossfire,, buy it put it away, on blocks starting it ,run it for an hour change the fluids, and do it again next year, Oh drain all the brake fluid, and wait. til 2050 what a better way to have an investment, pay$10 to $20.000 now and in 2050 in only 50 years your car will be worth 250,000.00. to 1 mil. example a 1968 mustang sold for $2850.00 new,, used in 1969 it was $800.00 to $1500.00 now it is $30,000.00 to $178,000.00 you want to put money away for the kids or grand kids,, go for it,, jim
"example a 1968 mustang sold for $2850.00 new,, used in 1969 it was $800.00 to $1500.00 ............"
I paid $2800.00 even for my 68 Mustang coupe. I guess I low balled the dealer. I traded it 9 months later for a Mustang Mach 1. Think I paid $3600 or so for that one.

I had $3600 in a '69 Z-28 too...but was too young to realize what I had...lol I just don't see these cars in the same way...I love them, but they aren't the classics of old. Even the economy is bringing those prices down now...Do as you wish, but I am driving mine...I will keep them nice for my sons to inherit...maybe they will get lucky...
My car is insured through "Haggerty Insurance" and after almost an interview on the phone with one of their Representatives, covered my SRT6 as a "Classic Car", with a Guaranteed Insured price of $23,000 with a Limit of 6000 miles a year. Cost per year from memory, was about $600. Restricted to Car Shows, GTG's & Pleasure. WELL every time I drive it its a Pleasure LOL. NO visiting Walmart Etc for shopping. though, BUT WHO WOULD.
glad you mentioned the insurance. I was thinking about this, but I only pay $422 for the roadster, and $408 for the coupe. I carry a $1K deductable for collision, and $500 for comprehensive. I recently had to pay that $1k for a door scrape that amounted to $1700.... So, if you think they are collectable, don't ever go to Walmart or car gtg in Detroit....lol... OUCH! ... I hope I am wrong, but I just see these going by the wayside like the Delorian/AMX/etc.... but that isn't bad...they still hold their value...that would be something...but no triple figures...
I just want you to know My insurance company also considers my 2007 / 2008 roadsters as classic cars and puts the premiums as such. Hard to get parts and replace the body. So they consider it classic cars for they don't produce them any more. 2007 -only 4800 made 2008- only 2004 made. if i am in an accident they would look for the body parts of older 2004-2008 models. Soon when those numbers go down you will be paying more insurance for all insurance companies will consider them as classics.
So we were discussing bumper stickers on ChristianForums.org today. I gave several reasons why I don't put anything on the back of my cars.
THEN, I posed a question:
Would YOU put ANYTHING on this car if YOU drove it?
With the picture in my signature (seen below, taken on the last Dragon run thru the Skyway) under it.
My Friend "Handy" (a wonderful lady out west who lives "on the side of a mountain") posted:
No.
No I would not.
That would be like putting a silly hat on Michelangelo's David.
