Ok Guys here's one for you, I inquired to Hagerty Collector car insurance for a quote to insure my car for a set cash value of 25000 and 6000 for add ons etc. After about a week they asked me for pics of all angles of the car and guess what? They consider it a collector status car due to the fact of a somewhat limited production and that its no longer manufactured. For 700 bucks a year I have my crossfire insured through a reputable classic collector car insurance co, Hagerty So it seems to me if a company like Haderty who insures mostly CLASSIC Collector Cars, would insure a Crossfire that says something about our cars dont you think. Definitly a Collector Car maybe not Classic status but still cool.

With this type of coverage, can it be used as a daily driver, or is there a limit on the mileage you can put on?

Hey FP hows it going
Dont recall any restrictions on mileage but i only drive it on weekends and on trips so it wouldnt matter, my point was that it is considered a collector car which is coool. anyway how have yoou been, hav'nt been on the site in quite awhile, last time i spoke to was at 2010 CCA in St Louis, been busy moved to Austin Tx, got married and a new job at the University of Tx

I answered that question in post #36 in this thd. here is the answer. also was told that it could not be driven to the Dr.'s office or the grocery store,, but too a event like the dragon is ok,, they told me that 3500 miles a year is ok and i could go over that if it was to shows or any car event no you can't drive it to work.

"sorry but i will not be joining the Hagerty company at this time, thanks for all your help.,, I feel, I love to drive my car more and more , not than just to events, it is a 2005 with 37000 miles on it , yet in Jan of this year it only had 30,000 miles so you can see how much more i am driving it now that it has the transplanted e55 Mercedes V 8 , every day i go somewhere to show it off or just to the beach where a crowd forms around my car. thanks jim,,, I have even had a guy start polishing it one time .

I was going to insure my car for 35,000.00 and they agreed and gave me a quote,,, it was a few dollars less than what i pay now,, then i ask if my car was totaled would i get 35,000.00 the answer was yes, i also ask can can i buy it back because of the engine and mods i have on it ,,again yes,for how much i as,,about 2/3 of the pay out, ,,, then i called my co. and ask how much would be the pay out and how much to buy it back pay out around 16000.00 buy it back for about 2000.00 ,with the 14000.00 in my pocket and my mods I could build another one., and i get to drive it as many miles as i want too, jim

I respect both of your opinions/info, but certainly you both can not be correct unless you were quoted on different policies??

I checked with the Haggerty booth a the Grand Rapids Metro Cruise three years ago and they would not cover a Crossfire at all, so I think it shows progress that it is now a "classic" even if only 7-8 model years old. I was told the restriction with Haggerty is driving to/from car shows or events and occasional pleasure driving. It could not be a DD. I guess I continue to keep my babies on conventional insurance for a few more years. I am down to <2k a year on each, but some of that is a summer business trip and grocery getting (when the weather is nice).

Zurich & Farm Bureau will both allow speciality car insurance. I know that Zurich will allow stated value on a vehicle if it is garaged. Classic will indicate an age of vehicle not how collectable it is (Zurich is 20+ yrs).

WOW all I know is what i have on my car, I was rear ended about 8weeks ago and pushed into the car in front of me, it did 9800 dollars damage to the front and rear, the rear bumper, front bumper grill, exhaust, muffler, four wheel alignment, body work and repaint, among many other little things, Hagerty fixed it with no problem, no questions asked. And i did drive it to work it was on my way home when this happened and they know that! so to you who doubt this all I can say is, whatever!!! Oh and by the way the rep from Hagerty told me if it was totaled out i would have get a check for 25,000 the ins amt, and 6,000 for the add ons . Fortunately it wasn't totaled because I really like my car and would'nt want to start over.
Ya' all have a nice day and i do appreciate all your comments, Thanks

TBurris, that is why I inquired further. I know 2 people in this thread believe it to be one way, but you are the only one with a policy in your hand, and that has quite a bit more bearing than talking to someone for a few minutes on the phone. The fact that you have gone through an accident under the exact circumstances they describe as being 'not covered' and you were 100% covered is the nail in the coffin...

I am giving them a call as soon as I figure out the winter vehicle.

Thanks!

insurance is only as good as your agent regardless of who's insurance you purchase. I checked into two classic car insurers, one was Hagerty. My current policy with Erie, w/ $1k deductable was a few dollars cheaper. So, I am staying put for now... I have no restrictions. Geico, insures my bike. I can switch to a storage period with them to save, and I am asking about this possibility as well with the cars...but, again, when the weather is nice, I like to drive them...so even that isn't a deal clincher...

If you had known that before the accident I'm sure you would have put your foot on the gas instead of the brake when the guy hit you from behind.
