I am not trying to take a shot at you. Why are you so defensive all of a sudden? Why are you so paranoid?

Jeep Cherokees are not known for being good on gas. But they can sure take a beating and out-live most cars on the road today.

Any idea what the RPMs should be at a given road speed, i. e. 3500@65 mph? That might give us a clue if there are significant differences between cars...

I have a NA stick & a NA automatic.....both run 2500 RPM at 70 mph.

At 3000 RPMs they both run a hair over 80 mph.

Something must be wrong with mine, I always get about 16 mpg with very little variation. 100% city driving.

What's your mileage at those speeds?

The 07 stick is a daily driver & not babied...I'm the original owner of both....the stick is about 80% highway driving & I keep close watch on the mpg (some kind of sickness?) ....it has almost 80,000 miles on it now...
Over the course of a year I ave just a hair over 25 mpg. So most of my driving is 70-80 mph on I-70.

The 08 automatic only has <17,000 miles on it & is driven mainly by my wife to work once in a while. She ave about 23.5. Occasional tanks work out to 25. When we first bought it from a dealership 500 miles away.....(this was the only long-sustained trip either one has been on)....it ave over 26 mpg.

I was checking mine this afternoon...I am running somewhere between 2550 and 2600 RPM...could explain the lower mileage...

Actually, I drove the automatic today & yes....at 70 it's turning 2550 to 2600 RPM at 70 mph. Filled it up = 25.1 mpg today. I put "Y" rated DWS tires on a few months back at about 35 psi.

Just filled up today. 100% city driving (spiritedly I should add). Got 311 miles on 14.9 Gallons, works out to not quite 21. Still had a gallon left but the gauge was showing empty.

City people probably get worse gas mileage, but then, they probably drive fewer miles per year than those of us that live in the sticks.

We use about 1000 gallons / year. Premium today was $3.43/ gal.

24MPG outta the last tank. 330 miles on not quite 14gallons. Mostly city driving, one trip of 50-60 miles of country roads.

thank God it's not just me!!! I have to admit that the most disappointing thing about the XF is the mpgs - I know we don't buy these for that reason BUT when my old Y2K Camaro SS was getting nearly the same mpgs then that's not good!! That being said I'm still as happy as a pig in muck so who cares lol

The LSx engines are hugely efficient over others when it comes to power and gas mileage.

So, if I were to trade in my 07 6spd daily driver & get a brand new 6 spd base Corvette......as a daily driver...would you think I would get better gas mileage than the 25.1 mpg I get now?
