Mann is not the only supplier for the NAPA GOLD 7078 oil filter. I ordered one from my local dealer & it was marked on the filter CHINA not MANN. The China 7078 gold is PAPER. The parts man said he is getting a number of filters marked CHINA from his supply house. Not all are MANN fleece filters like in the past. You never know which one is within the box until you open & check for the imprinted name on the top.
The box still reads 7078 gold for both. Be CAREFUL before taking one of these filters out of the store!!

 

and maybe someone did the ole switch trick before you got it. Does it have a number printed on the filter? The NAPA paper filter is 1226. 7078 filter is spec for synthetic.

I would return it and order another, or go somewhere else. The 7078 filter was quite a bit more expensive than the 1226.
