I have the original CD set for my 2005 and Chrysler dealership price for new set is $150. Is there another source for these or should I just give up the change ?

 

Not sure if Chrysler does it the same way Nissan does, but with all Nissan updates I advise the dealers to go through NavTek. They farm out all the navi discs to dealers... Dealers simply pass that cost on to the customer. Customers must use the dealer as a liason for the transaction, because NavTek won't deal directly with consumers (must have an active PO)

And yes, the update discs will need to be purchased new... that is, IF they're still supported.

Not sure the "year" of the onlines..

 

There are no new updated disks.... only the original data.... several folks have tried to get something going with no results.... if you just need a working set of disks, burning your own is pretty easy...

 

As stated by MikeR there are no 'new' disks available and if you pay $150 for another set they will be identical to the set you already have, so save your money.
You may want to burn a spare set to CD's and use those and save the originals in case they get ruined somehow.

 

The mapping and street names are so out dated by now, I wouldn't trust that System to find your local Seven-Eleven...

 

I'd get a baseline Garmin for $200 and call it a day.

 

So, let me understand - if I order a new set of disks, it will be 2005 information, and not an updated map ? Hhhmmmm. Mr. Miata, what are your $75 disks ? I have a Garmin, it takes up too much precious room and makes me feel like my built in nav system is going to waste.
Guess I'll just stay on the beaten path and follow the setting sun ......or something like that.

 

I think Mrmiata mis read your post, his $75 disks are the same as you have and the same as the $150 disks from the dealer.

The NAV works OK and is missing the streets etc added since 2004 (?) the percentage of those is quite small let's face it.
Get a Garmin if you like, I have both and the Crossfire nav still finds most places, but it is a pain to program compared to the Garmin.

 

And the folks on the Audi forum give me **** for having a Garmin and a Bel on my dashboard. I buy a new US/Canada Garmin every other year for about $125. Beats screwing around trying to find updates. And I was able to get a chip for Europe for $99 and just take my Garmin with me. Did you know the basic Garmin comes with a bunch of languages built in -- I was driving with friends in Slovakia and they said it spoke the language like a local. Plus it had maps for Slovakia, Hungary, and Poland in the Europe package. I would never buy a built in navi unit.

 

I was justa jokin you.. unless you have to spend money to feel like you got your moneys worth.. lol.

There is a free download of the OEM discs on the forum.. Would be what you already have in hand. Wasn't sure if by chance they had upgraded them by a year or two since original release.

 

I also consider Garmin top shelf, but I'm becoming a strong fan of the navigation system built into my Droid phone.

It's tied to Google maps, and rivals Garmin as one of the best GPS units on the planet.

Plus Google sends free updates to my phone every 30 to 45 days, so it's always current.

If you got Bluetooth Audio Streaming in your HU, this is the only way to travel, as it hooks right in. Don't got Bluetooth, but have an Aux Jack, then hook your phone that way, and it works.

No Bluetooth or Jack, put your phone on Speaker, and it works.

Like I said, my Phone as a GPS works like a charm for me...

 

Nav is unique in that whole towns are missing. I tried to use it to go to a place in New Jersey, the streets weren't listed, the whole town wasn't listed and it's over 150 years old.

 

With some places that's a good thing.

 

On no new CD data, if you live in Detroit, Cleveland, another old city with little growth, no problem. If you're in Vegas (20% additional sprawl since 2004), all you get is the chick on the system saying, "You are off road." I.e, I have the same navigation system Columbus used to discover America.
