valve stem caps

Default valve stem caps

Hello xfire folks,

i'm trying to recall if there were special valve stem caps that came as oem on crossfires. seems to me they did and had a chrysler logo on top. can anyone verify this? any pix?

They are special caps, but they did not have any logo on them. You must be careful to use the caps made of the same material as the stems. If not, they can corrode (electrolysis) on the stem and lock themselves on for good. I use plastic to be sure they don't lock on.

material compatiblity noted.

i would presume caps are available through a chrysler dealer.

I had a cap get lost once and I topped up the tire pressure in freezing weather. I blew a chunk of ice from the stem into the valve body and it leeked. The upshot was that the tire was ruined, it was in deep snow and the ill effects of the flat tire was not apparent to me. Ruined the sidewalls. Dummy.

As I stated earlier, I use plastic caps painted with silver wheel paint so they don't stick out and no worry about corrosion.

I understand the valve stems are aluminum. With that in mind, I poked around and found several auctions selling aluminum valve caps with the rubber seal enclosed. I figured aluminum on aluminum would be fine. But then I read in the fine print that these aluminum caps are not compatible with aluminum valve stems? Why would that be? Can someone here have a reasonable explanation for this?
