i agree, he should have read ahead. i read ahead a year beforei bought the lovely machine , updaye by the way ,i got her to do a burn out ! and she launched like heaven , that being said , i dont think its a good idea and will not continue to do so , and i dont think it helped my time since a loss of traction is not a great way to speed up a car .

haha so what do you reccomend for a quicker automatic tranny launch? actually spin the tires? isnt that why launch control exists ? to avoid spinning tires?

Not exactly, its to allow the right amount of slippage.

There are a lot of very dedicated and serious drag racers on this forum, that know these cars inside out. Not many NA racers, but for the most part, what works for an SRT driver should be able to translate into a successful technique with an NA car. I'm sure the wisdom here would fill volumes. That being said, I'm a novice when it comes to drag racing a Crossfire. But I have been down the strip about a 100 times or so with another car that performed exactly the same way as the Crossfire performs when both cars are in "Bone Stock" condition, and I have around 20 trophys to show for it.

My three very best 1/4 mile times were accomplished when my tires never broke lose at all. The car just "hooked up", and I remember it almost felt like the car bogged coming out of the hole. But each time that happened, I was rewarded with the best time slip to date. Once in 1972, again in 2001, and finally in 2004.
Every other time, the car always broke the tires lose, went a little sideways, and like you said, "It felt like Heaven". But it wasn't condusive to producing the best ET's
My trick? I simply just dead punched it from an idle. When I torqued it up, it always broke lose. (Felt more powerful) but wasted time burning rubber.
Now this technique won't work with an SRT, but with the power our NA cars have, and the huge tires we have, it should be no problem in an NA with an Automatic. (As long as the track is "prepped" , if it's not, then you're screwed).
Unfortunately, for us 6 spd. drivers, we can't use that technique. We have to manipulate the clutch in just such a way to get maximum forward motion with as little wheel spin as possible. With 1st. gear being as notoriously low as it is, (if done correctly) we can yank an automatic XF out of the hole most of the time. But unless your spot on everytime you launch, an auto can get the better of ya. That's why I prefer an automatic for drag racing.
Good Luck

im just going to guess its the car, my shock is that it did that time AFTER the tune , so im wondering if that tune did anything... snake oil of a sort , or of the car was actually slower?

You need to take your car to the drag strip to get the actual #'s. If your car is running better than 15.20's, then I'd say your "tune" is working.
The best thing you can do to improve 1/4 mile performance is install a NeedsWings CAI. It will cut nearly a 1/2 second off your times.
Or simply install a "smaller" set of rear tires, or do both.
Motor Trend Magazine did a comparison road test of an 04 XF and a 03 SLK in their Dec. 03 issue. Even though the SLK weighed 70lbs more, it still ran .42 sec. faster thanks to its lighter 225/50/16" tires that are more narrow than the standard XF rear tires.
I would also recommend that you disconnect your "Traction Control" at the Drag Strip.

Just turning it off, doesn't completely shut it down. One thing you don't need at the drags, is your computer braking, or cutting power just to improve traction.
Most any SRT owner will tell ya, the NA cars aren't drag racers, it's not their forte, and they would be correct. As I mentioned in a previous post, our cars would probably run in the 13's with nothing more than having a 4.10 gear, a 3.27 is just too high for serious drag racing. (But then we wouldn't have 150 mph capability, as if that's important here in America).
That being said, the NA's 1/4 mile performance (on average) matches most all the stock American Muscle Cars of the late 60's with a similar gear ratio, and around 400 cu. in. engines. So even though the best "Pure Stock" times of the SRT vs the NA are 1.4 seconds apart (according to automotive magazine road test) It's not terrible, all things considered.
It's just that the SRT's have so much more potential, it simply doesn't make economic sense to throw ton's of $$$ into an NA car for Drag racing, unless you really, really can afford it.
But that's a decision each individual owner has to make.

im not looking for a dragster i guess, im doing the throttle body and cai soon , i guess i was just shocked, im not willing to change the wheel size, ive always understood that the fire breather was the srt6 , and i will eventually get one , for now , i am quicker than 60 percent of cars, im faster at the light (not racing ) then most cars simply by getting up to 2000 rpm , ive noticed lately, so i dont have to try hard to get around people , am i going to beat a mustang? v6 older styles maybe , v8? no. and all cars of these styles are muscle cars, and i didnt buy a muscle car, i bought a work of sheer art with an engine in it . when i do buy the srt6 , then i will have a car that will beat most, till then i have to remember my srt6 spoiler is just for show haha

Don't be too sure. I beat my buddies 03 mustang gt with a 5 spd 4 for 4 last time we went out. He was trapping a little higher, but the the XF would get a jump off the line that the V8 couldnt make up, lol. The track prep, or lack of, may have helped a little, but I was spinning too so...

He has an 03 GT 5 spd with rear cat delete, flowmasters, h-pipe, cai, BBK 78mm throttle body. He also has 20" Foose wheels with 9" fronts and 10" rears which probably slow him down a bit due to a lot of rolling mass and the track prep was lacking, so he had problems spinning tires. He was running high 14s and low 15s and I was running mid to high 14s that night. I tried running his car one time and, with a missed gear shift and spinning tires badly, ran a 16.30 lol. I just made a set of MIL eliminators for him and we are preparing to do a gear swap to 4.10s and tune. Next, he is going back to some Cobra R 17s and selling the heavy Foose wheels. The little XF won't have a chance in HE double hocksticks then, unfortunately It is still a fun little car and any V6 that can break tires loose on dry pavement going into third gear at 50MPH cannot be called a slow POS, lol

i dont know if its relevant. but unfortunate news everyone , my baby veronica was hit by a big dodge ram last night, luckily were both ok , and only 2200 bucks in damage . shes still very much drive able , all the damage is cosmetic, and the dealership is taking care of it ,also i ordered a new throttle body for her ! soon under drive pulleys and and a cai!

p.s i was not at fault , she hit me by pretty much not stopping at a stop sign , im not a stupid 21 year old in a sports car, i drive responsibly.
