Oil pressure (have noise, help please)
Does my 2004 not have any oil pressure monitoring/indicating system at all?
I do not see any oil pressure sensor or switch in the parts breakdown, and the manual says that the oil light indicates an insufficiant level, not pressure when it illuminates. Is MB that confidant in their engines?
The service manual has a check where you tap into the system with a direct reading gauge to check the pressure, that is it?
My newly aquired 77,000 mile car has me scared, even after doing an oil change with 0-40 Mobil 1 and an MB filter, when fully warm (really hot) it has a knock from under the front of the car if the trans is in drive and the idle RPM at it's lowest. The knock can be loud, but usually is subdued. I wish I had oil pressure & temp info to see how it relates, I am afraid of it being a main bearing. It does not have that rod-knock sound when you blip the throttle.
I did not get the oil hot enough (hot day freeway for a while like my commute) to hear the noise before I bought the car. I am pretty bummed.
Do these cars ever get loose or cracked torque converters or flex plates? I am grasping for hope!
Worst case, what do used 77,000 (ish) mile engines cost? How hard are they to find?

The engine is easy to find. Lots of used ones around. Why not get a lower mileage one. They run like $1000 to $1800 on eBay. Maybe if you look local you can do better.
Thanks for the engine replacement info, I am glad they are not terribly priced.
Anybody have any ideas about the noise?
Am I correct in that there is not ANY oil pressure monitoring on this car?
