Default exhaust question

i'm sure this has been answered already but are there any downsides to removing the muffler and running straight pipes with oem tips .check engine light, drivability problems ,less power ,worst gas milage
listened to a bunch of sound clips and think it sounds great
thanks for any input

The only two things affected will be your neighbor's attitude and a headache drone

My 19 year old son had to remove the muffler 15 min after he purchased the car. Made one clean cut in case I had to weld the muffler back on. Very surprised, thought it would be much louder. Picked up a flex exhaust pipe and a couple of double exhaust tips from pep boys and with a little cutting we had a triple oval exhaust. One oval is a dummy and we painted the inside flat black to match the carbon on the working tips. Really looks and sounds good. Did the same on a v6 fiero lambo kit 4 years ago, only xFire sounds much better. Mentally it feels faster but I only drove it a few minutes before the muffler removal

I think the best option is to just remove the two rear cats. Under normal driving it sounds stock. When you get on it it sounds mean. No drone what so ever. Leave the muffler. And the rear cats are after the O2 sensors so no codes either. I am 47 and this was the right choice for me. But when I was 18 I probably would have removed everything too.

I removed my muffler and noticed no difference in fuel-economy, no driveability problems nor any warning lights. It is a noticeable bit louder than standard but the only downside (for me) is that at certain speeds it gets a little droney

My vw has an increases downpipe (2.5 over stock 2.0 inches),.cat delete and previous owner installed a magnaflow muffler , sounded better over all and i noticed no decrease in mpg, actually seems to have improved over all flow and may have increased mpg by about a mile per gallon ,I did get a code for emissions however with the removal of the cat
I assume that this would go the same for the xf aswell , just don't remove the cat you'll have a hard time passing emission tests without it

I had it done and stock tips put on.... Im 20 and can honstly say I hated it. it sound ok but super loud....couldnt drive thru my town without getting complaints. But as far as drivablty and engine lights it was all perfect. I now have the megan racing muffler and would never consider anything else it sounds amazing.

I did it based on the sound clips and it was fun for like a week and then was just annoying.....the drone. my car was even loud just starting up. I was actually followed home by a cop in town every night

define ricey... I like the sound - it doesn't sound like an 8 and I can't think of any possible muffler combo where it would but I will say if you have sensitive neighbours it certainly wouldn't be for you!!!! GREAT fun in tunnels though
