Default Starting issue

Every now and then it seems like my engine cranks in excess before starting. It doesn't do it all the time , but i think it's becoming more often. Has anyone experianced this also.II have a 2005 with 35,000 miles and rreally have had no problems with it. Thanks

Original battery?
Original Crankshaft Position Sensor?
Running panther **** instead of 93 octane gasoline?

As Mark just mentioned, this is usually the early signs of a Crankshaft Position Sensor failing... Sometimes starts hard, and idles rough. Shut it off, restart and it is fine....kind of thing.... but others will tell you a lot more than me....what do I know....

Search "CPS" - you will have it replaced yourself in 20 minutes or less.
Get one at Autohaus in Arizona, about $55 shipped - you want a BOSCH part, not a generic one.

My car has 77,000 on it, never had it fail. But that is PROBABLY 'cause I carry a new spare one in the trunk (because it seems EVERYONE here but me has had a failure).

It runs fine after it starts, but once in a while it seems to crank longer than normal when you start it. Thanks for your input.

The other thing the CPS does is cause the car to not run when it's hot.
It's a known failure item and easy/cheap to change. I'd try it and see what happens.

Keep us posted, so we can pass on the knowledge to others!

Have you replaced the fuel filter yet...35k it's time...remember the pressure regulator is part of the filter on our cars

He said it's a new battery.
Fuel is probably leaking down in pressure and the fuel pump has to make it up as mentioned above.

It's easy to do, drop plastic cover at the rear of the car, clamp fuel lines, remove clamps, and swap filters
