Default Those Freddie Kruger looking things on the Front Fenders

Not sure what you call them... but I think they're on the ugly side, and the ones on the drivers side rattle like crazy..

anyone taken them off, or changed how they look, or put something else there?

Point me to a thread...

inquiring minds want to know..

I keep mine very clean and polished!
Even use cotton swabs on them.

I would imagine that taking them off would look a bit funny... I'll try tightening them up.. (they rattle) and I might try to light them up (found that thread in the search)

so how hard is it to get behind them to tighten them up??

Do the strakes actually function? Or are they there for the looks ? I wanted to plastidip mine after I do my wheels but if they actually vent anything I might not do it
Personally though I like the look of slk's single strake but i doubt those would fit these cars

They are for looks only....I can't imagine the affect the airflow. They are not vents.

I know most super cars now have vents in the same area and they help cool the brakes , didn't think they did anything on the xf but doesn't hurt to ask

As much as I hate chrome... I really think they need to be chrome, along with the little trim on the fronts of the grill slats, and maybe, just maybe the door handles. Otherwise, I like them.

Yes, and there are 6+ holes that would need to be filled

Not impossible, but there are several spider style clips and some 2 sided tape holding them on. If they are lose, some double sided tape should work.

Imageshack - dscn0541f.jpg
A member here made those, and did nto finish them for everyone, and took some people's money, so they are not available...

I thought the strakes were the grooves in the hood that are replicated out to the tail. I thought the side molding was, well, side molding. BTW, I like them as they are.

The strakes on my XF rattled and I was concerned they may drop off, so i put a bead of black gutter sealant under each one..... my XF is Black so it is hidden easily.... no more rattles now.

Hopefully you never have to paint or touch up that area, getting off would be a killer...

Agreed, but not as bad as running along the freeway looking for the bits that fell off ... :-)
