Faulty ac expansion valve?
Gentlemen, thanks for all the suggestions, virtually all of which I've now tried, even the PM that suggest a VooDoo witch doctor and sacrificing a chicken. Just to cover all the bases I've ordered a new fan and control module (as suggested by the witch doctor) and as soon as I can get up the courage to chop the head off a live chicken I'll install them and see if that makes any difference.
Like woody, not to beat a dead horse, but when did the fan become part of the problem? I know you are disgusted with this and I am sure I speak for all of the guys who offered help, if we can be of any more help by suggestions let us know.
How were the lines "flushed"? What was your method? I've been in the HVAC field for 40+ years, and the only time I had to flush the lines was when a water cooled condenser leaked into the refrigerant lines.
Well, I have seen times that you needed to flush the lines if a compressor blew up and metal fragments were throughout the system or if the lines were left open for a long time, not plugged, and moisture etc would have collected. This is not the case here. However I agree that you don't need to flush the system every time. Anyway that doesn't solve the problem. Everyone with their suggestions and input has just about covered the entire system. There is something there that is obviously being overlooked. He may have to seek local professional advice.
Something does not seem right......if it is r134a, then 400# is over charged and the flushing and all the work reported does not make sense. Now the fan??? Not sure whats up here. Woody
System is full of air.Not refrigerant. It needs a pro with ten years of experience, not ten minutes. gary
Sorry been doing this for over 30 years, air is not going to give 400#. He has said that he evacuated the system in addition to the replacement dryer and other parts. Woody
400# is high for an R22 system and only reasonable for the R410 refrigerant systems.

Guys, I am not disgusted with all this, just baffled that even with all of the help that's been offered the problem persists. I'm used to bizarre problems cropping up with old cars (I'm seriously into pre-war and early post-war Rolls-Royce and Bentley motorcars) but this is the first time I've had an A/C problem with a modern car that has taken more than an afternoon to sort out. The reason I'm replacing the fan is that it seems to have a couple of flat-spotted bearings -- the fan doesn't spin as freely as I'd like -- and I'd rather replace it now than have it fail at some later date due to (possibly) faulty bearings.
In any event I'm in Huntsville, Alabama, this week end and will revisit the A/C problem when I get back.

Another, Just my opinion, but I have to ask this question. With all this R&R going on and this and that replaced, did you make sure that the proper amount of refridgerant oil was replaced in the system???? JMO
It was the fan. The trip to Huntsville turned into a trip to Nashville as well. Before I left I loaded the car on a trailer and took it to my nearest Chrysler Xfire certified dealer, who had it sorted out by the time I got home on Thursday. With the new fan and control module (?) fitted the air is cold as ever.
Go figure.

The problem wasn't obvious because the fan worked just fine when I tested it before starting work on the AC; it was, however, on it's last legs and after a few minutes running the fan would stop, things would heat up... well, you know the rest.
Anyhow, thanks for all of the suggestions, your help was truly appreciated.
