Default Key fob dead?

Hey all, new here obviously but used the awesome PDf to fix my key not turning issue. My new problem is that my key fob won't unlock the car remotely, it's 8 years old so I figured the battery's were just dead. I replaced them and it still doesn't remotely unlock the car and when I manually use the key it unlocks but the alarm goes off and when I try to start the car it fires right up then shuts down virtually immediately. Anyone go through this before and have suggestions? Thanks for any help in advance.

Did it fail when you started the car after fixing the ignition problem? If so you may have not reattached or broken the halo ring wire or pulled it off its connector at the SKREEM module.
Look there first, it's been done before.

Stuff like this makes me want to skreem... but instead, did you try programming the remote after changing batteries? In the owners manual

True but the chances of the key failing at the precise time he had fixed the ignition key problem is remote. No pun intended.
That's why I asked for a timeline.

Thanks for the input! The key worked flawlessly for about two months after I did the ignition mod. I'll dig into the key reprogramming in the manual when I get back to town. Must have missed it in my haste before my trip for work. Called a couple Chrysler dealers today and they were fairly clueless, and I'd rather not have to get my car towed to one to get looked at...

What year is your car? Just curious as looking into threads seems the last three skreem module problems have beeon 05's. Basically I'm looking for a pattern here.

I'd like to answer that.. but mine is working fine right now and I'm not going to give it a reason to do otherwise!

I have a problem similar to this in my '05 Roadster. Sometimes the fob works, sometimes not. But if I unlock the car with the key there's no problem. And this is with both of mine. I think the car fails to recognize it sometimes and other times it does. Wondering if it's the car battery as it's the original.

Yes, the alarm will go off, but will stop when you start the car. I replaced the battery in the fob, and it worked fine. The car was four years old when the battery died, just FYI.

I'm hoping you figure it out and report back because recently my key fob hasn't been able to unlock or lock the car from any distance, It's not all the time but lately It's been more and more frequent on top of that the key itself doesn't open the door , I'm assuming the key I'm using is the valets which is Why it won't work but then again that doesn't make much sense to me

I had my 04 from new and I never had a valet key, I have never seen one mentioned in the Owners Manual but frankly I have never really read it too much.

Valet keys open the door and start the car but do not work on the trunk and glove box if I remember correctly. Skip the trunk on our cars if they have a valet key.

Do you have new batteries in the fob? Silly question but you never said but I suspect you do have new ones.

A previous poster here had problems with his key and had to have a new lock fitted as the old lock had broken somehow or had something jammed down it. Maybe it needs some lubricant in the lock.

When i got my car it came with 2 keys , one I assumed was a valet key , had no Chrysler emblem on it and the alarm button is kinda used looking
But the good key with Chrysler emblem is at my dads house in his safe , so i don't know if It's just the key or maybe a battery problem because I've never touched the other one since I got the car
I'm guessing it maybe the battery I've never tried changing it cause I don't know if I would have to reprogram it after and I don't know how on this
I'm gonna try a little wd40 and see if that works to unlock it manually but atm the key is still overall functional

Sorry for resurrecting such an old topic but I am having the same issue at the moment and I am stuck in a parking lot of Target :/ key fobs batteries just dies. When I tried to unlock/lock the doors, it doesnt do anything. I unlocked the door manually with they key and tried to turn on the car but it doesnt start. So i went into target and purchased new batteries for the fob, cr 2025,2 of them, but now the fob still doesnt work also the car still doesnt start. It tries to start once in a while but dies right away. I remember changing the keyfob batteries before and it worked fine afterwards, i didnt need to sync it or anything like that. Do you guys have an idea about what is going on? Thanks in advance!

Red led on the fob flashes when i push the button by the way, is it a good thing or it means the new batteries i got are also dead? Because it flashes with the old baterries too

I red it on a different topic that red led on the controller means good battery. I am going to get a jump starter, lets see. All the lights do work but highbeam seems little dimmer than usual so it is safer to try this then keep wondering around

After I changed the batteries on the fob, i unplugged the negative end of the cars battery and waited for couple of minutes. Connected back and boom, it worked. I dont know if changing the fob batteries were really dead or there was something wrong with cars system and it reseted when i disconnected the negative end but i am glad it worked
