Is it possible that the battery in the car was dead? If the car battery is dead then the signal from the fob may not operate the CLP/SSM in the trunk, after all the system the fob signal operates is run by the battery.
If it happens again, get a new battery put in the car.

I got a new battery last year and it has been working good but I realized that battery seemed little weak when I was starting the car day before. It has been extremely cold in the past couple of days, i am in San antonio/texas and I have never seen it this cold before. It goes down to lower 20s right before sunrise so maybe that is the reason. Thank you!

Bad battery, bad contact at battery terminals, bad battery cables, take your pick of these if it is battery related.

It sounds like the key signal is not connecting with the car to disable the antitheft features. DO both of your keys have this problem or just one? That would be a good indication of whether it the key or the vehicle.

I experienced the same symptoms not long ago. Both of my key fobs exhibited no remote functions and no key on/engine start.

It turned out to be a loose (+) cable connection at the car's battery. Easy fix.
