New member with '04. Need key fob...
Hello,
Franc is the reason I found this place, and a very good reason that I bought the Crossfire that recently showed up on a car lot near here. It is a lovely virginal 30K mile example. The key fob onthe other hand looks like it has been through a battle...We only recieved one with the car. Should I go to the dealer ship for these, or is there a better way?? I have a feeling it isn't going to be inexpensive....
The wife and daughter in the new ride...

Thanks all. We love the Crossfire!!

Which one is the wife and which is the daughter?
I mean, uh.. this thread might save you some money: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...-key-save.html
There was a discussion here about some place online you could order a key based on the VIN, you still had to program it yourself (as described in the thread above) - but I can't find a reference to where they were talking about.

If its just the housing that's beat up but the key works fine, you can transplant the guts into a new case... just buy one on ebay 3 Buttons Flip Remote Key Fob Case Shell for Mercedes Benz SLK Class 98 04 | eBay , carefully pry open the stock case and transplant everything into the new one (a little dab of glue to help the new one not pop open on you wouldn't hurt)
If you want an additional key, you'll have to buy one from a dealership but you can do the programming yourself without any hassle..

I type faster than I can proof read some times. At times I fail to proof read at all. I ment nothing by it, just a simple mistake. It would be a shame to ban a new member on the second post for such an error, when the context was such. Taken out of context then I agree. But in the context it was used surely a reasonable person would take it as a typo.....as you did.

Re: New member with 04. Need key fob...
Well now,
Thanks for the welcome. I can take a ribbing and on occasion dish one out too!! I have some thick skin too, cause i actually told Franc I was burning E10 in the Crossfire....If you know Franc 's stance on that one, you will know that for us to be friends we had to have a small war first!! That war went well beyond these cars...anyway I am glad that on most things we can agree. On those that we don't we can still be civil and at lease talk. I wish more folks were able to do this...
My soon to be 16 year old daughter will also be joining in here. With her own user name.. She will be my driver, as long as the good grades and good behavior are kept up. She has quite a bit of driving experiance to her credit. I have let her drive off road for many years around the farm. She drives the truck and trailer when we **** hay bails for our hourses, and other things of this nature. Tractors and such are old hat to her for the most part, except the Caterpillar Ag tractors have very fast steering, and that one still scares her a bit. When she took Driver education the instructor on the 2nd day had her back into a narrrow drive with walls on each side. When she stopped the car in the drive, her instructor turned to her and asked "Farm girl?" she replied yes and he simply said, "thought so" She passed the course with compliments..
I told her she will drive other vehicals when the weather is such as to be bad for the car or too risky for accidents. She has agreed. She understands and believe as I do, that this car can be driven yet not loose value with time if well cared for. It is fine china and will break if you let your guard down. I still have my high school muscle car in the garage, and she knows how cool it is for me to give her and my family rides in it. She knows if she is carefull, she can have what I had, and a valuable car at the end of daily use....IF she is very carefull with it. One strike and she is out of there though....I have told her.
SO we hope to share this car with ourselves as father and daughter, and you here as the future unfolds. I told her this is either the best decision I have made, or the worst, it all depends on her. I told her to prove me right....
