All the coils on the left side are covered with oil as I figured out last night when I was trying to clean the engine for the first time since I bought it
It most likely means the RTV sealant for the valve cover vents ( where the hoses connect ) has deteriorated and you need to remove, thoroughly clean and replace with new RTV sealant.
There is a sticky how-to on that, search for it.
( the first thing I had to do after buying my car )

These engines should be good for 250k miles. It's unusual for one to fail at 70k. A good used engine should last a long time. You are not going to get much for a car with a rebuild title and replaced engine unless you lie to the buyer, and Crossfire owners do not do that to each other.

Those are your coil packs and they have a lot of crap on them. Can you tell where the leak is coming from?

My first step would be a compression and leakdown test. A blown head gasket should be no big unless either dramatically overheated or left out in freezing weather with water in the rad. Why did your mechanic not want to rebuild it ?

OTOH a "recycled" engine is a quick alternative and generally will cost less than a rebuild. If my engine blew and I didn't have a spare, it would get a 3.6 Pentastar 290-305 hp DOHC 4 valve on 87 PON. Have one in my Jeep.

Spare engine is good to have, am sorta looking for a wrecked coupe with a 6 speed, that way the parts come with a shed.

Hope you are not in Florida, even a salvage/rebuilt with a new VIN isn't worth much but can be registered, salvage COD cannot.

Strange that it blew a head gasket. I work on 112 motor cars every day and have yet to see a failed headgasket. Valve covers, sure. But this is a very unusual failure.

Maybe it is not the original motor. It is after all a salvage vehicle.

I cleaned them up and tighten the screws a little...it has been a week and still no new oil build up on them...but the performance of the car is still not like the day I got her...so it is time to change the spark plugs and the wire, and the transmission fluid at the end..

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies. This thread is a year old now though. I ended up replacing the engine. I suspect the issue was the oil change I got when they overfilled it with oil and the oil pressure light came on. I suspect that the extra pressure caused the blown gasket. The engine was toast. It ran me nearly 2k for a new engine installed. I think I got a good a decent deal on it, 40k miles on the "new" engine - was in great shape. It's been good since...
