Default Gas Smell

Has anyone experienced a gas smell in the cockpit of their Crossfire, And if so, any idea where it's coming from and how to resolve it?

There is a drain next to the gas filler that has a hose that should drain away any spilled gas while filling the car. It's possible that the hose has parted or is leaking into the rear of the car. At least that's where I would start. Just sayin.....

I get it occasionally but only when the heater is on for quite awhile. I don't seem to have a leak so I'm figuring it's coming from the outside and the heater is sucking it in. If I shut it off for a few minutes it's gone.

Talking Re: Gas Smell

There are reports of cars that have leaks with the hoses due to age rot. Go under that area under the passenger seat, and do a look see. Woody

I can vouche for this.. mine came from the passenger seat area!

Okay all kidding aside.. there have actually been a couple members finding puddles of gas from a leak at the hoses there.. Definately worth while to take a look.. drop the passenger rear wheel and pop the access cover off (front wheel side of fender well) and your there with the pump, filter and hoses..

x3 on the hose rotting problem, there was a post or two (including a news expose' about fuel lines rotting with the newer E85 (or something like this) gas on the market. Apparently it rots regular fuel lines since the cars made for this fuel has special lines that do not rot. Check all your fuel lines, it is too easy to ignite (you see the A$$'s throwing lit ciggs out their windows) and your life ending in immolation is not a pretty thing. Git er done!

Anyone putting E85 in their tank deserves to have it rot. E85 is about 85% ethanol.

You can NEVER know what is either intentionally or accidentially put into those gas station tanks.
