New SS 2 Lower Grill.
OK So I didn't have my heart set on the first set of SS grills. I like them, but I hoped for more. I don't know. You may love them, and if thats the case,... I love'm too. However I also came up with another style. Tell me what you think. I'll post the pictures in the gallery, and my album. Thanks again everyone.
English Bob. If you look closly at your bottom grill there is no holes. It's one piece.
No vent holes at all. Hence why the eng bay gets so hot.
I think it could benefit from some circulation but, with UK weather I don't know if to much rain would get in.

Ok guys imagine this. The holes are small, Yes. The thing is, is your not getting any less air because of that. Now if you took the two mesh panels and crossed them, then you would be restricting your air flow. Because you would then be canceling each other out. Actually back in the day peple would actually make water tight sacks, by using that same technique. (Over lapping many layers of mesh like fabric) Ok enough of the history lesson.
What actually is happening is, the air flow is more controled, and entering with more force.( Ex.) Have you ever used a water hose? Ok when you turn on the water on and just let it run, it won't go that far, or the pressure isn't that great Right? Now what happens when you take your thumb, and place it over the end. Now you got yourself a pressure washer. Not only is it intensified, but because of the new pressure the air that is moving through the opening is going to be much cooler. Yup.. Thats why a lot inercoolers use the smaller mesh, or smaller tighter radiator coils. The mesh serves as function as well as look'en pretty cool. It even amazes me what controled air flow can do. Actually in my intakes I have mesh caps threw out the whole thing. I use them to make the air flow more controled, (directional) and less turbulent.
Thats why when you take your air box off you have mesh on both sides of the inport outport of the manifold. So I hope this helps clear up your questions you had. If you have any more always feel free to ask. I rather take five minutes and try to help, then to hear you blow up your car. Thanks

Sure,
If your feel'en confident, this is what you do. First you have to start by opening up your hood and removing your top grill. It's 4 3/8mm bolts. I used my 18v Dewalt screw gun. Makes things move much faster. Once you get those bolts and washers out. Your grill is still attached by these plastic clips at the bottom. Be carefull not to snap one of those arms. Once you do that, that grill is going to be loose as a goose.
Once you have succesfully taken that top grill off, I think you should sit down and have a beer. I mean hay "You've been working your tail off Mr." Ok.... no just kidding. Now what your going to have to do is reach in through the now exposed front end. Reach down to were the lower grills are located. A couple of things to remember do not do this after a nice long drive, becaues that radiator is going to be extremly hot. Also watch your elbows on the radiator as well. Those grills can sometimes be pretty sharp. Almost like a cheese grader. Not fun, any who.
What you have on the bottom, is the same as you had on top. There are those same clips. Un- do those clips, and the grills just slide out. They are kind of a snug fit, so don't be supriesed you have to push a little bit.
That my friend is how you get the lower grills out. Now to get them back in..... well hell I don't know. All I know is I got a couple extra bolts...Ha Ha...kidding just kidding.
No the whole isn't that difficult. Just remember were everything goes, and you'll be fine. If you get in a jam, email me, or post it when you can. I check the forum a couple time a day for questions. So I hope this helps you with your project. Have fun.
Later.

Figured I'd add my input here to this forum.
I actually took out my bottom grills, and had them painted silver by my friend who works in a body shop. I think they look great. My car is black and silver, so they go really well. Kind of adds a new dimension to the front end, being the regular grills are so plain and unnoticable.
But in order to get them out, I did not unscrew anything, or go through the engine bay. They actually pop out rather easily just using a screwdriver or something like that. They pop out easily and pop right back in firmly..
Just pop out the side in the middle of the car first. Then the outer side just will pull out.
And btw, they do have holes in them, just in the center half of each grill.

Good for you NJ. I bet they turned out nicely. I had painted mine originally myslelf. I used to work at a High end custom paint and body shop. I ended up working on mostly Super Sport Bikes, and custom helmets for the Synergy Race Team. So now I paint things for myself, or for a friend or something. So if anyone out there wants anything painted, let me know. Most the time its pretty quick and easy.
R. Robertson just hold on a little longer, I'll post the SS 2's today at some point. I think you'll all like how they look when there installed on the car. I really like them a lot as far as purchase are you refurring to the grills, or the intakes. Reason why I'm holding off on price, becaues I looking into doing the whole thing in carbon fiber. I have done one already, and am pretty happy with it I just have to work my cost for materials. Just like aluminume, there are different levels of grade of materials. So please just hang on a little longer w/ the intakes. Besides When I do sell them, I want them to be perfect for all of you. I want you guys to tell everybody about this new guy and how great his work is. I don't want any negative responce. So by everyone being so nice by being paitiant. Your helping me to be able to help you better. So I thank you for that. I'll post those pictures just as soon as I can. Thank you to everyone.
Ps. How many people out there want the grills? Reason being they are not as time consuming as everything else is. I can put a bunch together in between everything else I have to do. So its official I'll be selling the intakes and grills. SO who ever wantes any one of the Three please email me what you ar interested in. I'll also custom paint anything you like as well. Just let me know.
Thank you guys, and possibly gals

Since my grille on the left side got taken out for me by a piece of truck tire tread :-( I got a chance to look at the replacement and was a little amazed that r.robertson claims no holes in his....???
Do you guys on the island have a special cool weather version or did r.robertson just not look quite good enough ???
Anyways...Not quite sure I completely agree with the physics you mention. I think since you are restricting air flow you will not get the same amount of air through your new grills....the air will simply go the easy way out and go around the restriction...and your car. The water hose example doesn't quite fit because the water has no other easier route to choose from...ergo higher muzzle velocity. Does the somewhat increased velocity of the air mean it's cooler....again not 100% sure on that, since what you are essentially doing is compressing the air...and that creates heat. Now expanding compressed air is cool...we all know that.
Will your grills make a difference in the environment of the engine bay... I doubt it ....but seeing how hot it is anyways I would probably not restrict the airflow anymore.
As far as the looks go....not bad but then again I like the black as a contrast on my Blaze....

Hey there Sunny,
I see there are a lot of things your not so sure about. Why don't you take it easy there big guy. For one the bottom grilles are no your main sorce of air intake. That great big grille above takes in most of the air. Besides they would not have put the skid plate under the car if they really wanted the main source of air flow coming in from the bottom.
What you think the mesh is, its not. The holes in the mesh are not as small as you think. And if makes you more comfortable. The other version of the grilles mesh holes are almost the same size as the originals.
Its funny though. I never said they were make your car spectacular, but I did notice that even in 100+ heat, the car is still running cooler then it was before.

ENGLISH BOB, SORRY I was wrong about the lower grill. As our license plates are large compared to the U.S. I did not see the centre holes. The UK CF may been lacking in air flow because of these larger lincense plates and would benefit from saskins design.
Thank you R.Robertson. Thank you for being paiteint with the intakes. If you can grin and bare it You will not be disapointed. There is a lot of technology going into these high performance air intakes. Things that you won't see amy one else do. I mean it gives me chills when I think about it. And the best part about all of it is I came up with it. Let me say again you will not be dissapointed!! I have tested the car in a small spectrum the HP gains were more then I expected. I'll leave it at that.
