Default Fred has moved on...

Traded Fred in on a 2013 Escape Titanium 4x4 Turbo 2.0 L 240hp 6 spd automatic (Car & Driver says 0-60 = 7.0).. Fred had 89,000 miles on the odometer...6 speed. Kept the old HHR for dirty work.

We test drove a 325hp Infinity EX37 (@$45K), a 138hp Buick Encore (@$32K) & a 260hp Turbo Sportage (@33K). All were 4x4s.....none of them had all the features of the Titanium Escape......not even the Infinity....

Auto opening rear hatch.....foot or fob, parallel parks itself, lane change warning sensors, navigation.....talk to it, trailer towing pkg, etc. Even has a 110 volt outlet. The infinity didn't even have remote start?????

The sticker was @$35,500.....2000 rebate + negotiated down about 2000......only got about 8500 on paper as a trade in.......but ....I only paid 23K for Fred .....> 5 yrs & 89000 miles ago.

So now Wilma comes out of mothballs.......she's still like brand new with 18,000 miles....

So long Fred......just me & you now Wilma.

Motor Trend says 6.8 seconds &......it is the SAME 2.0L 240 hp engine that's in the Range Rover Evoque..??. Found another tester that clocked 6.42 seconds......

240 with premium.....231 with 87....manual recommends 87......premium If towing.

If anyone in the KC area buys an 07 Machine Grey 6 spd with about 89,000 miles on it .....all the maintenance is written in the back of the owner's manual.....

fuel filter was changed around 50K
coolant replaced recently
spark plugs. . "
brake fluid............."
ceramic front. Pads. "
fresh 0w-40 "
tires Only few thousand miles

A tpms sensor went off recently......was going to wait till next set of tires to replace all of them......a round dot of electrical tape is covering the tpms light.

car is in great shape.....well cared for......had it's 5 year LPW inspection Nov. 2012......passed.

Thought some might be interested in this.......I switched to GEICO 6 months ago.....when I went online to drop Fred & pickup the Escape.....they offer an extended mechanical warranty for new cars. The original Ford warranty is 3/36 Plus 5 year 60,000 powertrain. For about $ 17.50 / 6 months GEICO ($250 deductible) will cover major mechanical for 7 years / 100,000 miles......... So over 7 years this costs a total of about $250.....

So, if I put 20000 / year on this Escape.....then after 3 years I would have no Ford warranty...but with GEICO......I would have 4 more years (or 40,000 more miles) of major mechanical coverage (250 deductible). Seems like a good deal.

Used the "Auto-Parking" feature today for the first time........push the button.....it locates a suitable open parallel parking spot.....tells you to release the steering wheel & put it in reverse.......wham.....one swift motion it steers the Escape right into the spot.

Between the Bluetooth phone, Voice NAV, Radio, Rain sensing wipers, Lane change warning, etc.....this little 4x4 turbo is like Star Trek.

That's awful news. Now, when you get into Wilma, you will have to remember how to drive!

So, Shawnee Mission Ford (Yahoo Autos) has Fred listed as an automatic & asking about 12,500......they gave me 8350 as a trade in.....plus it saved me 730 in sales tax on the escape.....so in my mind I got 9080 out of Fred. Kelly BB trade in value for Excellent was about 8400 ......private sale KBB Excellent is about 10500.........

If anyone goes to look at it........it's a stick not an automatic as they advertise....

to dicker with them

1. When I had the windshield replaced .....they got black glue on the headliner....I got the windshield for free.....but never replaced the headliner....instead....well look close you'll see how I jury rigged a cosmetic fix.

2. I always left the spoiler up (liked the look)....the spoiler works fine....but developed a slight tick sound when going up/down.

3. Front bumper .....I was going to repaint......look close......something about getting to 100 every day over 89000 miles affects the paint on the front bumper.

4. Tape dot over TPMS light

5. Rear pads are original pads. Front are new ceramic.....did not turn rotor.

coolant, brake fluid & spark plugs are new. Tires very new.

6. Lighter socket works but .....plug doesn't.

I'd think $11K to $11.5K would be a fair price......oil has always been changed with M1 0w-40 with 1000 miles left on the monitor.

Dealership has dropped it's "Internet Price" to $10,431........if Fred is still there in a couple of months I'm gonna offer $6,500......

I wonder if I got him back .....Chrysler would still see me as the original owner & I suppose the LPW would still be in effect?

Down to $9,943 now........that's only about $900 more than what I netted off the trade-in...
