Default Dealer let me bring in my own oil ......

Well I just saved $40 on my oil change by buying my own oil. They charged 10.95 a quart last time. At my boyfriends suggestion I called the dealer first and they said there was no problem if I brought in my own oil. I bought Mobil 1 0w-40 for under $5 a quart. I still got the filter thru them. But they didn't charge any more than the standard $10 for labor on an oil change. Thought I would share!!

Call me cheap but hey, it's my money. I've done that for years as you are NOT required to buy from them. There is nothing new in bringing in your own oil, parts etc. They don't like it but oh well... just remember they are NOT your friends. If they were, they would not be ripping you off.

They are BIG TIME overcharging you for oil at $10.95 a quart. I would speak to the service AND parts manager together. Let them know that is robbery. Most dealerships are selling oil in the $6.00 range and an oil change costs $75.00 or so. Also let them know you will file a complaint with DC. Run, don't walk and find another dealer... you ARE getting screwed at those prices.

My local Wally World here in Phoenix carriers Mobil 1 for $4.95 a quart.

Heck no, not cheap at all, sounds like you enjoy saving money as I do. I go one step further and do the changes myself.

My first post was about the unusual oil filter and I've already gone to the dealer to buy 2 of them at $10.95 each. The Mobil 1 was about $5.00 per quart, so you figure a savings of $30.00 to $40.00+ depending on your local dealer's service charge. I also don't like the hassle of taking my car to any one if I can do the work on my own.

I have a set of low clearance ramps from Griott's and it takes all of 20 minutes or less to do the work. No charge to recycle the oil at the local parts store.

I'm told to simply keep the oil and filter receipts, so that there are no warranty issues.

They only charged $10 in labor. I thought it was fine having them do it. Total cost out of my pocket was $70. I can't complain.

Which dealer did you go to?

Good service deserves patronage.
