Default 2004 Crossfire is cutting off on me while idling.

Hey guys,

I need some help on this issue, but I don't want to jump to the wrong thing. My 2004 Crossfire just recently started sputtering and cutting off while I'm idling. Sometimes it even backfires. The check engine light is on, and when I give it some gas there is a delay.

What do you all think it could be?

I'm think CPM but who know.

Eric

Gotta get that code! We make fun of the CEL light, but when it is on, it means the PTCM has seen something it doesn't like.
It is a good starting point...

P0410 Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction
P0101 Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Range/Performance Problem

Hmmm. Odd to get THOSE two together.
Cleaning the MAF would be worth a try - or replacing it.

I'd almost say to check the age of the battery, clean the battery posts and terminals, pull the RCM and get it resoldered, clean the MAF, mabye replace the MAF.

CPS can be it, too. CPS is cheap and easy (just make sure you order a BOSCH part from German Auto Supply or Autohaus).

Wait for Ala_xfire to check in and give his thoughts.

P0410 Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction
Many of us have gotten this code but this has to my knowledge never caused any obvious issues with the way the car runs.
Many of us simply ignore this code because it has no real importance to the operation of these cars and can be caused by several factors which often are hard to identify.
Mine occasionally throws this code and my air pump is operating as it should so it is obviously something else causing it but my car runs perfectly all the time so I pay no attention to this code and reset it using my Ultra Gauge

P0101 Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Range/Performance Problem

I'm not familiar with this code so I'll let someone else comment on this one

Good luck, Gary

Finally we get the answers saying to check the codes instead of wild guesses that cost time and money and may not solve the problem. That is an improvement over answers saying its the battery, RCM, CPS, etc.

The codes do not have to be set at the same time, once the light is on you would not know another one has been set a day, week or month later.

Check the symptoms with the ladies problems the other day, she ended up cleaning the MAF with spray.

Thanks guys. Im going to the dealer tomorrow to get it fixed. If its something simple I will just do it myself. There are so many variables that can be the cause of it. Someone said it sounds like a fuel pump problem. Who knows.

Thanks, Eric

Gee, you are gonna make me blush. Guess this means that occasionally someone reads the crap I write.
P0410 - like Gary said - crap code, ignore/reset it. ( I get this one sometimes when I run the RCM that I replaced the air pump relay on - probably my fault )
P0101 - sure sounds like :
1. dirty/faulty MAF/IAT sensor - search threads for cleaning it.
2. clogged up air filters - fix is obvious.

Hi ALl,

I have been having the exact same symptoms, and codes as OP for a very long time. The car runs like complete sh*t! its embarrassing.

I would like to know your results OP? please post back... I am ordering a new MAF sensor, can someone PLEASE suggest where I can purchase a genuine bosch from ebay or an online shop that ships to Australia?
