Default Gear box problem - any ideas?

Had my 2006 (40k) auto crossfire serviced on Monday. Since then gearbox feels lumpy! Driving home tonight I slowed down and lost gears. Car was revving but in Drive! Fiddled about with the gear stick into neutral then drive etc.. And after a couple of mins in clicked into gear and I was off. The gear box sump gasket, oil and engine oil was changed at the service. I've had the car 3 years without the slightest problem.

Any ideas what might be the issue?

Wrong transmission fluid. It has to be a very specific fluid. Pizzas point is some mechanics thing tranny fluid is all the same).
Leaking Transmission connector(common problem) could make it search, stick, or rev without movement.
Overfill of fluid can cause this (airbubbles form and cause hard shifting etc.)

Let us know what it is.

^^^^^ Plus 1 on the fluid type, the wrong fluid can harm the tranny. Overfill is dumped according to Waldig.
Low fluid can cause missed and slipping gears.

180....many thx for the feedback. Already been talking to the garage that serviced it, and it's booked in at the end of the week. I'll make sure your suggestions are considered and addressed. Many thx for the help

I was not being sarcastic, I actually was trying to be helpful - you took the car to an incompetent garage that did not even check it's own work. NOW you know where NOT to take it. HELL, when NTB aligns my car, the guy drives it before I get it back. (I THINK he drives it when he puts tires on it, but I'm not sure).

I don't know where you go the next time you need it worked on, but if you take it back there - you didn't take my post seriously. It was not meant as a joke, it was meant as advice - I was very serious.

I had a problem like that a few days ago. Had to rock the car to get out of the snow. When I finally got it out car trans wouldn't engage after first gear. Car was just revving, no power to the wheels. Shut it off and started it again and it's been fine since. I'm thinking it was a relay that overheated since I really had to spin the wheels to get out. Possible trans shop screwed up some of the electronics when they did the fluid change on Slim's car.
