Tranny popping out of gear AGAIN!?
Tranny popping out of gear AGAIN!?
Less than a year ago I bought a new 04 6sp Crossfire and right away it developed the infamous popping out of first gear problem. After much hassle a new transmission solved the problem.
Today I was driving home from an appointment only to have it pop out of gear again. Thinking this might be a fluke or a mistake on my end, I ignored it. Three stoplights later it did it again.
Just curious to see if anyone else who had this problem initially has had it redevelop. My car doesn't even have 8,000 miles on it yet.

Re: Tranny popping out of gear AGAIN!?
The original TSB for that issue (21-002-04) has been superceeded with a new "advanced notice" TSB (21-005-05) published on 2/05/2005 and is supposed to take affect on 2/14/2005. Supposedly the reason is because a special tool is required for reassembly of the transmission, which will not be available to the dealers until 2/14.
In addition to the gear synchronizer issue, this bulletin recomends that first the dealer should adjust the reverse lockout cable to resolve the issue. Apparently if it is not adjusted properly the transmission will pop-out of first gear because it thinks you are trying to lift up to engage reverse.
Take it to the dealer and refernce that TSB. They should adjust the reverse lockout cable and if the problem persists have them try the gear synchronizer fix after they have acquired the tool (9204) to do the job properly.
I had the lockout cable adjusted this week but haven't driven the Crossfire enough to see if the problem still exists.
Good Luck!
