Default Key

Is it possible to get a key replacement without a copy of the original key and without going through Mercedes? Maybe locksmiths who can use the vin number or if I take the cylinder and code box out?

Thanks.

YOu need no 'copy' of the key. As is posted above, you need:
Proof of ownership (registration/title copy)
Current mileage (if it does not line up with state records, your order is rejected, it's part of the proof of ownership)
Payment

But go ahead, take the car apart and visit a locksmith - but make SURE you come back here and tell us how that went.

hi. I have an 06 coupe. I thought I had a great german shop here in ft worth. However, they specialize in BMW. I need a new shop - every (simple) repair they have done had to be done at least 2x - unacceptable for $150/hr rate they charge.... any recommendations here in ft worth?

i just had 1 cut at a local lockshop. They can either do it manually or in my case their new lazer cut machine was missing the "F" code plate , so they did mine manually for $20
