Default 2005 car start issue

My wife drove our car to work today and had the following happen when she was leaving:

1) She started the car and it revved and then died. It was probably 35°F at the time.
2) She removed the key, put it back in and the engine wouldn’t start, but, the accessories would (radio, lights, etc.,).
3) She turned it off, removed the key, reinserted it and the car started normally.

Any thoughts on what could cause this? It worked fine on the 5 mile trip home & started up normally when she got home (turned it off and back on)...

Thanks!

Did the starter engage or not? We know the car did not start, but did the starter engage or not?

If not, yank the RCM and send it to DJ for refurbishing.
If the starter DID engage, we will have a lot more questions.

No, the starter didn’t engage. Is there a link to removing the RCM & what all to send to DJ (including cost & an address)? I appreciate the quick response.

I found this link while researching... is it still accurate and is the RCM fixable with a simple soldering iron?

However, in many instances the contacts inside go bad and in that case you must send it to DJ for rebuild or replace with new, If you can afford it, it is best to replace it and send your current one to DY for rebuild and keep it as a spare, The new one will be in the neighborhood of $200.00 and DJ charges about $50.00 for the rebuild. It is plug and play.

Search RCM RY-1562 You can pick them up for around $125.00 including shipping.

I appreciate the information and will get a new module & send the other one to DJ. Two questions:

1) I’m not good at tying names to accounts, who is DJ & are the charges and address the same as the link that I included above ($37)? I ask because the link is over ten years old now, hehe.
2) Is it possible to add the mod so the horn beeps when you lock/unlock the car?

Thanks,
- Brian

1) EMail him and ask: tighed1 @Hotmail.com
2) That is really a separate issue. There are at least two ways to get that done. I'd ask DJ.

As far as I know, no one set up a horn beeping when the car is locked or unlocked. The beep that the siren does is a 'chirp' that is built in to the newer sirens. You can put a 'chirping speaker' in the under hood fuse box, wired to a relay already there. Searching chirping in the forum, that might find the posts. Good luck!

Super easy, grab a small "sonalert" or sounder of some sort that works on 12 volt DC. You connect it from the coil's hot side to ground on the Remote Keyless Entry relay in the driver's side underhood fuse box.

As is so often the case, Dave (OneHundred80) has the link in his signature line....

Sadly with the forum software being what it is I no longer dare to add or edit any of these links S the whole system is unstable. That thread of mine has seen 232,000+ visits to date. Maybe it is too big and needs splitting into two parts. I dare not try that though, some years back the thread went missing but an older backup was found and retrieved Some posts on it were lost though.

I wonder if we can upgrade the software...

I appreciate the link to add the lock/unlock ability.

DJ, I’ll send you the RCM later this coming week.

"WE" can't do a damn thing. It is not OUR forum, it is owned by "Internet Brands".
