Default 2004 engine "knock"

Well heard this yesterday. Took the belt off to see if it was a pulley and nope. Do not hear it this morning when the engine is cold only starts once warmed up. Can hear it best from the rear of engine but that may be due to firewall reflecting sound. Also if I'm in park and shift to gear when the engine has load I cant hear it. Same if I turn on ac and there is load. Well just noticed barely can hear it. Pretty much disappears with some throttle in idle. Tried using a rod to pinpoint sound seems to be from passenger side. Uploading to youtube.
Any thoughts or similar experiences? Yes its nasty in there lol I've only had it a couple weeks. Mobile 1 0/40 with fleece change after I got it as well as air filters.

Update....put the car on ramps and listened everywhere underneath and hear nothing using screwdriver and extension from ratchet. Sound is loudest on valve cover directly over numer 1 cylinder.

Private sale. Was only 2k and not my primary just a new toy. I was putting it up on stands this weekend anyway to replace all the front end suspension and bearings. Will add pulling valve covers too for inspection. Hopefully its top end I really and I mean really don't want to tear this engine down lol.

PLEASE come back and let us know when you find out what it is. BTW, was there any problem when you did the oil change? Thicker/thinner oil, new/old filter??? I look forward to following this issue here.

Not sure what oil was in it but it was due a change I used 0/40 mobile 1. The filter was paper and still in reasonable shape replaced with the mann fleece. I've considered the oil change could have been a factor. Due to being over 100k I may want to try 5/40. I am finding it odd i have no sound in my block but guess we will see when i get the covers off. I will definitely update as I learn more this site has a wealth of info I'm happy to add what I can for others.

SOMETIMES, some 'gunk' from past poor maintenance can make the upper end 'sticky'. Before you change the oil the next time, put some seafoam ( https://seafoamsales.com/ ) in the oil. Buy it wherever it is least expensive OR where you shop all the time. Its pretty self instructing but you may want to read up on it to find the one you want. Good luck!

I've used seafoam for years. I didn't get to the valve covers today. I did pull all my passenger lower suspension and replaced all of it. Bought all my back could take today still have drivers side to do but may hold off and pull cover in the morning. My bearings were trashed and lower control arm bushings busted. All nice and new now though. Will update soon as I get the cover popped with what I find.

Valve cover off. Everything looks pretty nice and tight no obvious signs of extra wear standing out or movement....but....number 1 plug wire felt a little different kinda loose than the rest

How was your idle? A loose oor bad plug wire could make some noise.

Idle was always steady. However yesterday after I got the suspension put back together I drove 2 miles and when I got back sitting in park just feathered the gas and noticed it wasn't responding as quickly as normal and fluctuating back to normal. Will have new wires and plugs here at 4 supposedly to put it back together. I toko my ohmmeter to all the coils to compare for fluctuations and nothing there. These plugs are a pain in the *** to get out lol.

Got the plugs and new wires installed. Drove the car with a little intent and its runs noticeably better. Sadly the sound remains. Will think about my next step and update my progress.

This weekend I believe I'm free I'm going to go ahead and drop the pan and inspect my crank and bearings. Since my top end looks great I guess that's my next step.
