Default Oil Level Indicator???

Scoured the manual for something on this but couldn't see anything;

When I switch the ignition on and leave it on for about 6 seconds (without starting the engine) a small oil can symbol appears in the trip odometer section of the dash display. (Oil level is fine). Any ideas?

Thanks

the "oil can" symbol at startup is a service/maintenance indicator.

hope this helps.

Actually, you can read the oil level at this point. If you press the trip odometer button twice, it should say "OIL: ok" in the trip odometer panel. If you are low on oil, it will tell you how many liters low you are.

The oil level indicator or check is rather smart. If you read the manual, it says that the car must be run and then turned off. AFTER waiting aprox. five minutes you can then invoke the oil level check.

That is an important detail. If you walked out to your Crossfire now with the engine having been off for a long time the oil check function will not work. Also if you do not wait aprox. 5 minutes, it will not work either. It requires some time to allow the oil to drain back to the sump.

BTW, the manual says to press the **** twice. In my experience, if you press it slowly, this is not good. It likes two quick presses with very little time in between the presses.

Hope this helps?

I swear this is not in my manual, although I am waiting for the UK version, the one that came with the car doesn't have anywhere for service stamps, covers options not available in the UK like electric folding mirrors and shows the cup holder that you US owners are so impressed by but left out the UK version!

Will re read the manual.

My manual says 'Printed in Europe' is in German and has it all. For the service stamps there are a few pages almost at the end of the book in chapter 8. What electric folding mirror you mean? The rear mirror is either auto-dim or in newer models manual only. The side mirrors do not fold automatically. And you say you don't have any cup holder in your UK car? What do you have instead, storage bin?

My manual did not have any pages for the service stamps etc either. I called Chrysler who said it was a misprint in the handbook they told me to visit the local dealer who will replace these free of charge. I have now had this done and the new manual posted to me with a section for all the service stamps. All dealers should be aware of this and advise Chrysler as they have been informed to replace these free of charge. As for the oil check, yes it does exactly what it says in the manual.

I checked my oil today, OK, gosh that's neat. I read about it in the owners manual when I got the car, as the days were ticking away it would not work. I reset the service indicator and then all worked great. I did reset the trip odometer several times while "playing" with the feature.
