Default Best place to put a floor jack!

I want to jack my car up high enough to put floor jacks under. Is there a best place for jacking up under the center instead of the jacking pads. I want to work under the car as well as changing the brake rotors and pads. OnlyI time I jacked it up was on the jack pads with a floor jack. I put the jack stands under the lower control arm. It was barely enough room to get under. Thanks

Jack up the rear by putting the jack on the differential, place stands under jack points.
Now go in from side about middle door and jack up on the front cross member, place stands on front.
Reverse procedure to get car back down.

I only want the front jacked up not the back. What now? (Newbie)
