Unless it is recurring sound/incident, caused by a worn part, I suspect your tire picked up or flipped something to cause it to hit the underside of the car. As you were focused on doing a lane change maybe there was a small pothole you hit without realizing it.

check and see if your coil springs did not snap off at bottom , it’s a common problem

Angry Re: Clunking sound right front

Hello I am new to this forum, and had to wait almost a month to drive my new purchase a 2006 Crossfire convertable because of covid and the motorvehilce dept.
I just took it for an inspection and they tell me the Right front coil spring is broken.
does anyone know where I can find one? they are listed as obsolite with oem parts in ohio. is there an alternitive? or used parts anyone can recomend?
Thanks for any help
please contact Catartpro@yahoo.com as I am not too savey finding things on this site.

we had a similar problem with our crossfire , from what I have read , when the springs were originally manufactured they stamped a part number on each spring, where the number is stamped , is where the spring eventually cracks and or breaks. We found a decent used pair of springs on EBay. There are other alternatives which are expensive , (performance) springs
but try the used markets if you feel comfortable with that . There’s a website called NeedsWings that caters to Crossfires ... you can check them out as well .
We opted for springs and shocks all around
Nice ride money well spent. Good luck
Keep us posted as to how you made out

I agree www.needswings.com is a good option for new springs.

My crossfire was making a clunking sound. I finally found it. Mine was the inner tie rod.

man accurate diagnosis is always important , my comment about the springs was based on my own personal experience . There are a lot of suspension components in the front that can fail , tie rods (as you mentioned) ball joints , shocks , even bearings . Good to hear you found out your tie rod was bad .... it’s all about collective information on the forums ...👍😎
