Default OK, finally got all my audio components. Please tell me what I need to hook up to

factory speakers and amp.

Here is my list of stuff:

Kenwood KVT-M700 7" LCD with brain and Kenwood DV3100 NAV

Xbox console

Kenwood 6 disk CD changer

Do I need a special adaptor to hook up this head unit? And what do I hook up the speaker lines to?

Lastly how do I disable the darn hand brake lockout on the screen? My woman needs some Sex in the City while on the go.

Thanks guys if you could list out all the stuff I need.

you'll probably need the same Scosche VW01 wiring harness and Metra 40-EU10 antenna adapter to hook up the new head unit to the amp/speakers. You'll need RCA cables (with video... yellow, white, red) to hook up the XBox to the head unit. You're gonna have to power the XBox with a power inverter. The CD Changer should have come with some special Kenwood cables to connect it to the head unit.

as far as the hand brake, i'm guessing it receives power, ground, or similar when the brake is either enable or disabled. you're either going to have to supply it with constant ground or 12V to "fool" the deck into thinking the brake is enabled. or is it hooked up using a speed sensor? what does the deck's instructions say about hooking up the brake wire?

good luck!

Hey thanks, yup still around. Just driving my Crossfire... have a little over 5,000 miles on it... still love it.

I really should update my photos, I switched to a silver iPod mini, takes up less space.

Back to MAYAman's project... you should be all set after the first reply...

I picked up the adapters I needed for my project from Best Buy, out in the car installation area. Circuit City should have the adapters too. The antenna adapter is a standard one that is used on lots of different cars and the wiring harness is a standard one for lots of VW's. You can also buy them on-line, here's what I have for notes:

Anyhow here's the info from DFWSBR:
Universal OEM DIN Tool Pair (Crutchfield P/N 120869001)
Scosche VW01B Wiring Harness (Best Buy)
Metra Antenna Works 40-EU10 Antenna Adapter Cable (Best Buy)

P/N 120869001 Universal OEM DIN Tool Pair (removes stock head unit)
P/N 12040EU10 Euro antenna adapter
P/N 120701784 VW Wire harness (switch the red and yellow wires when connecting the VW harness to the new head unit harness, DO connect the amp turn on lead)

If you're going to buy them somewhere else, go to Crutchfield and print out the pictures of each item or just shop for head units that fit your Crossfire and add one to your cart and the other items will be added automatically.

Uh oh, I saw this when I chose a head unit about the harness...

What you need to know:

* The harness does not supply connections for the front speakers, so you will need to run new speaker wires to your front speakers.
* The harness does not supply connections for the rear speakers, so you will need to run new speaker wires to your rear speakers.
* When used in this vehicle, the functions of the yellow and red wires in the Crutchfield harness are reversed. The yellow wire supplies ignition power, and the Red wire supplies constant power.

Run new wires to the speakers??? WTF?

Yeah, no worries, the only one that is correct is the last one about switching the red and yellow wires. The speaker connections work just fine and when you look at the Crossfire plug you'll see they only use the Front speakers.

Good luck and make sure you post some pictures...

In the former cars when I changed a radio I always looked on the wire labels. Usually it's marked what they are for and than just connected the corresponding ones.
I didn't take out the stock radio yet. Aren't there any labels on the wires?

Cybergreg you have been awesome. Now some technical questions since I have all the components now.

I was told by my brother that since the Kenwood KVT-M700 has a built in AMP that I would loose my factory amp and my factory subwoofer.

Is this true? I don't want to loose my factory AMP as I feel it sounds great. I just want to add this head unit and be able to use all the factory equipment. Just want to add a Nav and Xbox and CD changer. Cripes why is this so complicated?

Thanks man

n/p glad I could help.... If you use the wiring harness you won't loose anything. You DO have to hook up the (pink I think) wire labeled amp turn on. The VW instructions will tell you not to but then you won't hear anything out of your speakers. There have been numerous discussion around replacing head units and using either speaker out or line out.

Here's a summary:
Several people suggest and use Line out
* Better sound, less distortion
* Your speakers will last much longer as they won't be over driven
* Lower volume or rather finer volume range

Several others are using speaker out (I did with my Sony and am using speaker out with my Becker)
* Easier install, just connect the wires and plug it in
* Louder volume or rather coarse volume range

Edit: there are indeed much more knowledgeable people on the forum than me... ;-)

I don't think they are labeled but a schematic is just a click away... ;-) The wiring harness adapter is very well labeled and makes installing a new head unit as simple as splicing (usually like colored) wires together.

^^^Man you freakin ROCK! Thanks bro, all I have to do now is find a competent dude to help me install this. I'm not going to rip up any carpet or trim. I'm going to run all the wires in a loom so that if I want to take it out all I have to do is take out the loom. It will be black and run over the bulkhead behind the seats in the corner so as it won't stick out. I know not as clean as a "hidden" install but I don't want any squeaks from taking stuff apart.

CYBERGREG I have my radio out but not all the wires on the harness are on the adaptor. Where is the pink wire for the amp? I know gray and white are the front speakers, yellow and red are swapped. But where do I put the ground so that the screen will open while I drive and what about the pink wire for the amp?

I need your help bro.

Also, there is a blue wires from the Kenwood harness that says

Ant. Control. *solid blue wire
P Control *blue and white stripe*
ext control *pink wire with black stripe*

Where do these go?

Also, on the back of the package for the wiring harness adaptor is says

"Not for use on "Factory Amplified" sound systems.

I'm trying to figure out how to get the AMP to work with this.

Thanks again.

I like the factory sound system but am surprised that the back speakers are subs only. Does the factory amp have four channels and single sub? Suppose I should take a look. Usually what I try to have is the fader set to keep the sound central.
