Question Outside Air Temp.

I would like to know how accurate you think the outside air temp. is on your xfire. I think mine was close when I got the car. I now think it reads way high.

Mine seems to read 2-3 degrees high--if I can believe the time/temp. sign at the local bank.

Mine reads within a degree of the temp signs that I see on the road. Is it reading high at all times, or only when you first get in the car? I've seen mine reading as much as 25 deg. higher when it has been sitting in a parking lot. Once I get going it will drop back to the correct temperature. All the cars I've been in with temp sensors do this.

I have both PJA and C_Plunkett's experiences. I don't remember whether it read the same amount LOW after being parked in the winter.

It doesn't seem to change after you drive. It just stays high. I have been on the interstate and if it is 90 out It will read well over 100. I guess it is time to go to the dealer and get it repaired before I am out of warranty.

Thanks for your info.

IMO it's normal to have a slight difference to the time/temp sign at the bank. The sensor is fixed to the car and reads therefore the temperature of the direct environment. And that's good like this especially in winter, the road can already freeze while the air near the bank is above freezing point. And in summer the air over the roads heats up higher.

I don't think I should read 115 when it is 90 outside. I made a appointment to bring the car in to be checked. Will bring it in on 8/22. Will let you know what they find.

Good idea, aschrager, I'd get it checked. No sense waiting till the warrantee is over, especially if you're always looking at it!

Mine always reads high when I first start the car, but after a couple of minutes on the road it settles into the actual temperature. I always assume the temp it reads is a little hotter than the actual temp, just due to the heat generated by other cars and the road.

Mine reads about 2 degrees higher than what it actually is outside. On a recent trip, the outside air was 98 and my car said it was 100. I went from concrete to a freshly layed asphalt strip of road, in about a minute the temp indicated 102. Then when the road went back to concrete again the temp dropped back to 100 in just under a minute. So my conclusion was that the type of road affects the reading.

Driving to work today it was 69 deg. out my car read 84. That is why I want it fixed. My PT Cruiser was all ways within 2 deg.

I took my car to the dealer today to get the outside air temp repaired. They just called me and told me then ordered a new temp sensor. They also ordered the storage bin to replace the cup holder and one center cap for the tire rim. I will let you know if the part fixes the temp.

The parts all came in. They were all replaced on Monday the 19th of Sept. The storage bin is much better than the cup holder. I now have a place for my cell phone. The outside air temp now seems to be good. The replaced all of the wheel center caps.
Got a free chrysler 300 rental for the day. Nice car. Wish it was a 300C.
