Default Hemi engine on Crossfire

Hi everyone. I'm in process of buying a Crossfire Coupe. I read on the internet about the Hemi engine which, as much as i understand, you can stop some of car cylinders for saving fuel.

http://www.wjjeeps.com/engine.htm#Hemi

I heard that this Hemi system is mounted on Chrysler 300C also. I wonder if they put it on Crossfire as well.

yeah, at cruising speeds and light loads the engine only runs on 4 cylinders, but once floored at full throttle all 8 cylinders are up and running. its so smooth that you never know when its really on 4 or 8, and the when you floor it the activation of the other cylinders happens so fast its instant. and I think it was renntech that actually swapped in a 6.1 hemi into the crossfire, not exactly sure but if you search there is a link somewhere showing it. hope this helps.

just FYI, the cylinder deactivation was done to bump the MPG up, and get rid of the gas guzzler tax on the 300C. The SRT's 6.1L has no deactivation system, and therefore has a gas guzzler tax --

Yes, the 300C 5.7l is a HEMI. Great car. Large limousine but quick, fast and agile! I'm always impressed. WST you're right, when not needed 4 cylinders stop working in order to save fuel. The other 4 are enough for cruising. I never notice the moment when they stop/start working.
For the Crossfire as far as I know there aren't any HEMI available, yet. If you need a larger engine check STARTECH.de they offer a 6.1l V8 for Crossfire. But might cost a fortune. Their '04 Crossfire 3.8l S with 22,000 km costs EUR 65k. Almost twice the price of a new one.

nxmx5-thanks i forgot the 6.1 doesn't have it. but if you can afford a $40k+ car, i'm sure your not worried about gas. just like people still driving their hummers, and if i had the 5.7 hemi, trust me all 8 cylinders would be going all the time. what's the point of having the power if you don't use it right?

you're right regarding if you afford a 40k car you shouldn't worry about the gas, but in my country the medium salary is somewhere about 150 EUR. In present i own a BMW 330XD (it was 60k when bought it) which takes 10l/100km (23.52 mpg) and now i wonder how much it will "eat" the crossfire. I asked some users on this forum, and i was surprised to find out that don't takes more than 13l/100km if cruising normally. So i was worry about the consumption, because instead the money for the gas... here the streets are all f'd up! (sorry for expression) Every months i must take my bmw to do the geometry, and repair the wheels (17"), which is another money to waste, but in your country the streets are so good you don't even feel when riding. I was through Italy, Germany, Austria, France, and it makes a very big difference regarding the roads, highways and streets.

Hmmm...taking a page form the Cadillac book? Back in the 80's, Cadillac had a V-8 that would deactivate cylinders to save gas. However, the experiment wasn't much of a success. Probably the electronic technology wasn't good enough.
