Default fog lights

When you turn on the fog lights you pull on the headlights switch once, but you can still pull again out a second time? What does the second time do?

in the states the 2nd position does nothing.

but in germany, uk, england, etc... it allows for a rear fog light to come on.

history...

the rear fog lights were "born" in germany.

they are a "must" in germany and are based in the german law.

german cars must have 1, most have 2 rear fog lights. they have to be switched on in foggy weather when the visibility is 50 meters or below. then there applies a speed limit of 50 km per hour.

they are an extra red bulb and are brighter than the normal rear lights, similar to the brake-lights, but extra bulbs.

Anyone checked to see if we are pre-wired? Which lights are they on the euro? Do we share the same tails?

TIA!

the US-spec cars come with two reverse lamps. euro (and aussie) cars only have one reverse lamp and the other lamp is the rear fog light. the US- headlight switch is not wired for a rear fog light. i don't have a full-size pic of mine, but here's a little pic from my site. --

I actually was tickled when I found out what that **** did last month and I've owned my car for close to a year now!

You know how some people ride around with just their runners and fog lights on without having their regular headlights on at night? Well, our cars have the ability to do that, too.

If you turn the **** once to the right, you turn on your running lights. Now while in that first position, if you pull out the ****, you can drive with just your runners and fog lights on.

Now if you turn the **** to the right again, you turn on the full set of headlights. In that position, if you pull out the ****, you now drive with both headlights and fog lights on.

I remember when I lived in Europe and drove a European car, that my rear fog light could be turned on when I had both headlight and fog lights on. In that position I had to pull that **** out one more time to trigger that rear fog light. Why its not a feature here in the US, I have no clue because I would not mind having that safety feature.

I kinda like the feature where you can illuminate just the left or right side as well. I think its pretty cool.

For when you park in a dark area - you turn **** to the setting that illuminates that side of your car.

I've used it many times when I've had to park on an unlit street or at the top of a hill to make sure its obvious my car is there - even though its yellow, I don't want to take any chances.
