Default Recycle your air, anyone?

I rarely use the recycle a/c mode switch except when driving thru a tunnel or on a dusty road.

Late the other evening driving thru that stinking tunnel, radio reception went awol and as usual I hit the recycle a/c switch. I hear a faint rattling/flapping noise emanating from the rear cargo area somewhere. Switch off the recycle ... the flapping rattle noise disappears, switch it back on ... noise reappears, and so on. So it's definitely related to air venting via the recycle mode.
  1. Can anyone tell me if they've experienced the same?
  2. Is it due to fresh air providing positive pressure inside the cab whilst recycled converts to neg pressure? (or visa versa?)
  3. That this causes a rear air vent baffle flapping about somewhere in the rear cargo area?
  4. Is there a rear vent in the cargo area?

there is a vent in the back of the car; i found it when i was playing with the trunk lid on day (rattle). its down around the rear bumper area. i haven't noticed it being affected by the air circulation though. i do know they release excess pressure when the trunk is slammed or the doors closed --

Ah ha, that'd be the clue - that the vent flap is pressure activated, hence cabin pressure in recycle mode v's fresh air mode.
Thanks NX... I'll look into this. Odd though that no others have noticed it.

Sean:
I bet most of us have music playing so we do not hear that faint cargo area noise?

When I pull into the garage at night, with all music off, I hear a few very, very faint "thwip" sounds as I suppose air duct flaps or gates close under the dash or in the rear.

Fairdinkum! I'd love to pull into the garage and park next to that awesome Cobra of yours, Art.
No recycled air in that ballsy beast - jerst absolutely fresh in your face. Fantastic ... darn it, I want one!

Has the "fix" for this been found? It does change if the fan is on and does sound like a flap of
sort under the cargo area panels.
