Default Heater wont turn off

When I drove my car today, I used the heater as normal (since it is -1 degree outside in NE), but when I shut my car off the heater didn't turn off. I can move the dial to off but it just keeps on blowing! It already drained my battery once so I jump started the car so I could try to figure out he problem. Anyone have any ideas on how to stop this problem or any quick fixes just to stop the batter from draining so I can take it to the dealer tomorrow?

Pull the fuse. I think it is located under the hood.

It sounds a little like the heater option that allows it to keep running after ignition is off may be the culprit.
Can't remember exactly how but if you want the heater to keep blowing for awhile after shutting off car - you can program it.

You can't program it to continue running, but you can hit the recirc button and it will turn back on. It only will blow the fan at the 2 setting but it keeps the car kinda warm. It sounds like the button could be stuck or maybe you hit it accidentally after the ignition was turned off.

One thing I am not sure about is if the system works when the key is removed. I am pretty sure it works only in the ACC position but I could be wrong.

I pulled fuse #35 and #36 which will stop the problem for tonight. I will probably just take it to the dealer tomorrow but I will try the recirc button before doing so. Thanks for all of the quick replies.

i use this feature all the time during the colder months.

once you turn the car off and remove the key... push the reticulating air button and the heat will continue to blow thru the vents for a predetermined amount of time. this feature is great if it is really cold outside & you are running into the store or something for 15 minutes or so. you'll return and the inside is still warm.

the coolest feature ever imo.

sounds like an electrical problem some where... the dealer is definitely going to be your best bet.

Yeah, I think I have to go to the dealer because it wasn't the recirc button. Sounds like this might be a ton of fun.

I sure wish that feature could also control the Air-Cond...
We don't need car heaters here in Queensland... but something to keep our car Cool
when its all locked-up (in our hot sun) - would be a boon.

That would be cool, hahaha.
Would not work unless you could keep the ac compressor running.
I would not be surprised if they add an electric motor to do this when the 36 volt becomes commonplace...

If they do we will need bigger batteries - aircon is a serious load, probably 700W to 1000W, thats like 10+ headlights left on! I suppose with 36V there is some scope but you would still be pulling 20+ amps. Would be nice though.

Andrew.
Does the heater run until it's shutoff?

It will run for 30 min i think then shut off. I'll look it up in the owners manual if you don't have one.
