Run Flats available?

I will not take the car out of the metro area for fear of being stranded. It is a great car but taking it on a long trip is out of the question for me.

I'm not picking on you but I'm just curious, why did you buy the car if you're that paranoid about not leaving town with it because of it not having run flats or a spare? It seems far too many people are overly concerned with that issue. Your missing the whole experience of owning the Crossfire by not getting out of town and onto the winding roads in the country or up in the mountains.
For what it's worth (sorry I can't come up with the exact source at the moment) I've read the average person experiences a flat less than once every ten years, which has held true for me. Now, I've had several slow leaks that I discovered by checking my tires once a week, before a trip and while away from home, without fail. Also the TPM on the Crossfire works very well and is an added bonus in helping to keep an eye on the tires.
I second what cwdilg said above, AAA premium is cheap insurance and can't be beat for I believe I pay $145.00 a year, which included additional coverage for my wife (AAA covers the person, not a specific vehicle). It covers you in ANY vehicle you are driving/riding in. (Don’t laugh at Grandpa the next time you see him go down the road in his Buick with the AAA sticker on the back end, he knows what he’s doing… okay then, laugh at the Buick only).
As for what tires to buy, again I second what cwdilg's said. I have no first hand knowledge YET of the Eagle F1's, but over the past two years since buying my Crossfire, I have kept a close eye on what tires were out there for our cars, especially because of the high price of the PS 2's early on (almost $2,000 a set in 2003 through mid 2005). I have researched several tire comparison test and the F1 has always beat out other brands. It did no one thing perfect but overall it won hands down. It did however, have the best tread life out there of any other performance tire. They will be my next set of tires when the PS 2‘s run out of rubber in another 6k miles or so.
Here is a link to just one of the tire comparison test I was referring to:

…and the winner is??? You guessed it, the Goodyear F1 Eagle AND for a very good price.

The tire pressure sensors work great on after market wheels AND tires.
My warning light comes on at 2 lbs. under the preferred pressure.
It definitely keeps me on my toes.
I do keep an analogue gauge in my trunk.
I'm very impressed with the whole system.
(I do have AAA with 100 miles of free towing, just in case.)

Cissy: My wife and I love our 2004 Blaze Red Coupe, but the no spare situation has been a trial. With only 13,400 miles on the car last October, we were enjoying the Fall colors at June Lake on a very good 2-lane road and in a 35 mph zone when "Bam" , front left tire went. I was driving as we passed through an heavily shaded area and must have run over a piece of steel. It sliced the inside edge of the tire clean down to the rim, ruining the rim in the process. After being towed from June Lake to the closest dealer in So. Lake Tahoe ($400) we replace both front tires and bought one new wheel. It took a while to trust the road again, but as the dealer said "it will probably never happen again." So 3 months and a thousand miles later it happened again on a perfectly good road, highway 49 in the town of Coloma. This time, again at about 35 mph going through town, I ran over something unseen on the road that was like a piece of spring steel. It punched a big enough hole to wreck the tire, but I guess we're lucky that the rim survived. Frankly, we are both getting paranoid about venture out in the country where we love to drive the car. Fortunately we were within cell-phone range in each instance. But we have driven the car in Nevada and Arizona where there is no cell coverage. We love the car, but Wow! After I get my two new rear tires on Friday, I'm not ever going to feel relaxed on trips again. It's the pits.

Wow, that is pretty bad.
I also am always thinking of "what if"...in fact, I recently joined AAA just because of the tires. I hope it never happens to me, but then <sigh>.
I sure hope it doesn't happen again to you.

I've been driving for 39 years tomorrow, and I've never felt the need to have a "3xA" card, but I figured, who needs the extra aggravation a flat tire in the XF can turn into.
Cissy: Make sure to buy the AAA Plus option. Towing mileage increases from 5 miles free to 100 miles free for just a few bucks more. I feel better again after a good night's sleep and after getting the new tires installed tomorrow, we'll go for another long ride just to prove the jinx is broken.
Cheers!

I drive british cars, We have AAA+ love it. I have never had to call them for a flat
BTW the spare in my mercedes looks like its 20+ years old.
That being said we have had to call good sam for blowouts on our motor homes several times.
One blowout cost 3k as it took out both holding tanks at the time, thank god they were empty.

Thanks Ira, +Fire and Diardi. Glad I have AAA too, then.
When I read the promotional card I got in the mail for AAA, I didn't notice a "plus" option. I shall look into it once I hear back from AAA regarding my application.
Thanks guys. One of the reason I really like this forum is you all.

runflats are available. try dunlop web site or type your tyre size into google, of course they are more expensive than other tyres. sometimes no matter how hard you try to watch to not run in a pot hole when doing around 100 mph the guy with the overloaded junk truck dropped i piece of box section about 2 inches long, about 5 minutes before you came along and it rips the sidewall out, it called oh shi i think.
that's my story an i managed to limp home as it was late and i mean late one sat night. i still don't worry though just one of life's little hazards (we must carry a lug wrench and jack for something).

believe me once you drive it and get all the looks and admiration from other cars on the road you will realize you made the right decision. i don't worry about flats and such since you have the free service and in case of a small leak, you have the tire kit.
Ok, now I get it. Quite a while ago a friend had a pager and a girlfriend with attitude - she would page him with just " 4-3,4-3,4-3 " it kinda implied a certain four letter word followed by a "you" ... It sounds like I was reading too much into it!! I own an Electraglide with " 8-LEFT " for my plate. It means eight lives left, I had a little run-in with a barbwire fence... the big fairing took most of the strands. She'll be mine forever- you only get that lucky once.
