Run Flats available?
OK, I've gotten very concerned that I've made a mistake buying this car with no reliable provision for a fixing a flat.
Got on the TireRack website, plugged in car info, and selected include run flats. It pulled up about 11 tire choices, but I can't see where any of these are designated run flat.
Does anyone know if there are run flat tires made for this car?

At first, my main concern was also the NO run flats nor a spare. But my husband convinced me not to worry. I do drive her carefully and try to avoid pot holes, etc., as I am a tad paranoid about that issue and about the "no spare tire" thing. However, I cannot remember the last time I had a flat tire. I've decided to make a conscience effort not to worry as it takes the fun out of driving my Crossfire.
Just enjoy your new car. Treat her nice, drive it sensibly. Be kind to her tires LOL. She'll respond in kind.
If they ever do come out with getting run flats that fit the Crossfire, I will probably invest in them. Will probably cost a rocker arm and a leg...but alas, ya can't take it with you.
No worries! Just enjoy!

That's my outlook on it anyway. Just drive and have fun. Realizing you are going to own a most unique car, that'll take your worries about no run flats nor a spare tire away.

I'll try to relax.

If you find an out clause (I think there is a period of time when you can reneg?), you will probably lose the down payment (if you paid one). I do hope you reconsider.
Good luck on your decision. I know I don't regret buying mine...regardless of no spare and no run flats.
Run flats will harden the ride of the car a bit and will be very expensive. Just invest in a few items and some diligence and your fears will go away.
1) Maintain and inspect your tires REGULARLY, can't stress this enough!!!
2) Purchase a "GOOD" ANALOG tire gauge and keep it in your trunk!
3) Purchase a "GOOD" tire plug kit and keep it in your trunk!
4) Watch the road, avoid potholes, debris and curbs.

There is a compressor and tire gooo sealant in the back.
I bought a $10 tire plug kit to keep in the car as added insurance.
The way I see it, If I get a big blowout or the tire comes off the bead well... that is what tow trucks are for.
Don't worry about it, just drive it. Besides it handles so well there is no way you won't be able to avoid the pot holes. lol

The up side (from what I've read) is that if I use the goo, it won't clog up what's not there.

If it's really a thorn in your side, go to a salvage yard and pick up a spare tire and wheel out of a Mercedes SLK. Chances are you will never need it, but at least you will have the satisfaction of knowing it's there if you do.

Along with the tire-kit, maybe having AAA would give you a better peace of mind.
chung
AAA membership is cheap insurance if you are really worried about it. I have driven from Colorado to California through Utah, Nevada, and Arizona and back again without a problem, except for some of the rough riding cra#@y roads in Utah on the original Continentals. I was happy that I had the membership card in my wallet and that it never did see the light of day.
Many of the current design run flats have an exceptionally stiff sidewall which will contribute to a tougher ride than the stock tires. I had Michelin Pilot All Seasons on for a few weeks and I could not handle their stiff ride. I am currently running Goodyear tires and they provide an exceptional dry and wet road ride. They are useless in the snow and ice.
Dunlop M3's are a true run flat winter tire that came out in the Fall. I have them on another car that I use through the winter. They may be available for the Crossfire, now.
They did not substantially change the ride of the car that I have them on. They cost a small fortune, but when you gotta go...spend the dough!
The Crossfire represents true value for the money. Don't worry about the tires. Enjoy the ride!

About a month after I purchased my X-fire in Dec 2003 I hit a small road obstacle resulting in a flat. The repair kit did not work on the problem and I had to call for a flat-bed. The dealership in Dallas took 5 days to find another tire (rear) and the tread didn't match the other 3 tires. I only got 11,000 miles on the original Pilot Sports (with very normal driving) and eventually replaced them. At the, I couldn't find run-flats but they would have been my first choice.
Since that experience, I will not take the car out of the metro area for fear of being stranded. It is a great car but taking it on a long trip is out of the question for me.

Maybe this has been discussed before but how many miles are you all averaging with the Contis? Rumor has it these are not the best of tires and have a short tread life.
