firebaseD... i will tell ya that... if you drive your XF over here 2 NYC, drive it through lower income areas in da Bronx... upper manhattan, queens and brooklyn... you will live that scenario you presented above... these people may not own the HOT cars they admire... but they sure as heck can call out the name of the XF rather than asking what it is... they know about the deployable spoiler... top speed... srt6 etc...

and heck...i would even be your wingman.

X'd thanx for your interest... i was talking to a 1/4 mile TOP FUEL driver who has been successfully in the game for over 20 years. i left him my XF for a weekend as the wife and i flew to the west coast... when we got back and picked up the XF he had left me a note saying...

yep a 3.8 MB will fit perfect in there...

so... began my investigation... i want to be familiar with this info, before he gets back from his travels...

this is a man who drops/pulls/ $55,000 dollar engines like its nothing. he has 5 in total...to be safe on race day...

so getting back to the threads orig topic... regardless how much one paid for their XF, this car has extreme potential. engine/drivetrain swaps...

i wouldn't mind dropping a more powerful engine...matching up to the orig tranny(!?)... for the weekend... and swap over to the 3.2 for the day to day drive.

Xfire: I am attaching an email I got from Karmann
Monday, January 30, 2006 3:10 AM, I think you'll find some of the information you are seeking in it. There is also an email contact at the end of the letter for Karmann, let me know when your ready for the engine swap, I got a very large Oak in the back yard with a come-a-long already hung up and ready to go.

Dear Customer,

unfortunately we have no car tuning experience !
Karmann produce only series cars!

But you can also ask by DaimlerChrysler Germany.
The engine compartment from the Crossfire is the same as the Mercedes SLK!

Hopeful me answer helps you!

Questions or comments please let me know.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / With Best Regards

Albrecht Roth

My question was:
Mr. Roth
Question: Will the small MB V8 swap out with the 3.2L V6? In others words could the V6L be pulled out of a Crossfire and the small MB V8 be dropped into the same engine compartment, without major reworking of the engine compartment?

what i'm saying is that i don't remember a 3.8 liter v8 ever being produced by mercedes, i never doubted a swap could be done...

x'd... yeah... never thought you doubted a swap, me as well never heard of a 3.8 V8 MB...

i was just summing up how i came to this topic.

also... maybe i misread his handwriting. i will check tomorrow as the note is in the XF.

but i don't think so...

i thought he was off with the engine type... MB autos have been crazed in my family since the 60's and i never heard of that particular V8...

the search goes on...

firebaseD...

thanks 4 the heads up... email

there were many days and endless nights that a tree/come-a-long hook up occupied my time...

you ahead of me with the swap idea...

but when i start to get serious, i will keep you/xxf.org posted...

i have other projects planned for the XF... can't wait, just obtained a portion of a full functioning shop with lifts... spray booth... etc...

brother i can't wait to jump back in the game!!!

i think the smartest swap, on the surface, would be the 4.3. its basically the same engine, just with 2 more cylinders, and makes massive power with cams...

One of the aftermarket companies, Startech or Kleemann I believe, sells a "big bore" version of the 3.2L motor that has been bored/stroked to 3.8L. I want to say that it makes about 285 HP.

if i motivate myself enough to do this project... cause i am sure it would be a major breach regarding the ext warranty i have... i want the donor long block to have alot more horsepower than the SRT6s...maybe the SRT8s. heheheh

yeah look into the engine compartment and with minor adjustments it can handle two more cylinders... yeah this would be nice... if an SLR engine fits in there it'll stay in there for good... ok thanks gents for the input.

i am going back to the drawing board.

You want big HP? Startech does a 6.1L V-8 mod for the Crossfire. 426 HP, 458 Lb/ft of torque. You can check it out at: this link.

No... DC would not have been able to bump up the price to contend with the price market you mentioned above. Unless they dropped $1,000 into interior enhancements... i. e. leather... aluminum...etc.

j.
Plastic, you don't think MB uses plastic. Have you ever looked into a MB? I would rather have real plastic nicely panted or finished than fake plastic burrel. Just check out the picture, well I can't get it to upload but if you look at any SLK320 you will see it is the same as a crossfire.

nice link... looks like the right people are keen on this idea already...

182 grand+ lets see that adds up to 4 srt6 XFs and one '04 leftover coupe for the same money!

that's over 1,100 HP! i think i would choose the five XFs!!!

but seriously... 400 HP... decent rebuild is a nice project...

realistically i don't want to get greedy with horsepower on my XF's frame and suspension... especially that it is a daily ride. i feel this car can handle 350-400 hp with not much strain .

These people were having problems with the idea of a good car that cost less than $40k to $50k.

So, what I wonder is does anyone think that the XF would have sold better if they had actually priced it higher?
IMO they would have sold better if they provided cars to the tuner crowd to develop performance parts and the sort... The car is in limbo land for every market. Not wicked fast, not luxury sexy, not practical family car...

They could get it back on track if they turned it into an 350Z, EVO, WRX, S2000 killer with some serious HP and tuner crowd bling !!!
