Woodward Dream Cruise - August 16, 2008 - Detroit, MI
Update as of 7/11
Tavern on 13 one/two miles west of 13/WW lot on 13 Mile Road.
Thank you for your responses about the dinner time on Sat. night.
I worked out a confirmed reservation at 7:00 with Tavern on 13, we are all set to go together/eat at the same time.
The whole group together. The menu starts at $11.00 Hamburger Deluxe up to $20.00 Delmonico Steak, which includes bread, salad and drinks (pop/coffee/tea -sorry it's still a cash bar).
There are 7 entrées, the burger and one very good chicken salad. We are limited to these choices, but they're all good.

This is good news indeed.
Most everyone so far had chosen 7:00 for dinner anyway.
I am glad that we as a group will all be able to be together for dinner etc.
Now all we need to work out is Friday night dinner.

I reserved the room for 2 ( my wife and myself) and we'll be arriving on Thursday. I could not get the crossfire club rate for the 3rd night so the operator gave me a deal of 3 nights at $89.00 per night and includes breakfast for 2 in the mornings. Thats much better than the $142.00 they would have charged for the 3rd night under the club rate. See you all in one month!!!

I still like my idea/suggestion that I made to Ann............we don't all have to be together for the Friday night, AFTER driving the 'Strip', and break up into groups (go for pizza, beer, etc.)
Random selection of small groups of 8 or so and do our own thing at a designated food place.
Roy,
I am so sorry, does having two teenage kids help explain my lack of follow up on your suggestion? I have included your idea here for the group to consider. I am willing to do what ever the group picks. I haven't found a Friday night restaurant yet. I was going to find something either on Woodward or near the hotel. If everyone is interested in having a "mix up" dinner I'd like it if someone could handle the planning. Between Apkano/Steve and us we can help with restaurant locations. Members post here what you think/want. I'll keep looking for a place for the group together as well as make note of places smaller groups could go to. Ann
"Hi Ann:
Trust you received my money order for the parking.
I think you should keep the Saturday night at Tavern 13 as planned, for the reasons you mentioned.........that was a good plan.
Now for Friday night. Here is my suggestion:
Have everyone meet at a set time on late Friday afternoon, prior to dinner time (meet at Marriott Opdyke hotel). Also, can you list 6-8 restaurants that could be used for smaller groups.
My suggestion is that we select smaller groups at random (you could use a draw process) and we go as separate smaller groups to those restaurants. This way we will be forced to meet others that we might not normally meet. It removes the logistics of trying to find one restaurant that can handle forty people or more. I would suggest that the smaller groups would be no more than about 8 people (4-5 cars). Whether we would need reservations at those restaurants, I would have to leave that for you to decide.
The key point is to get a commitment from those Friday Niters and communicate the process to them and have them at the hotel at a certain time (mandatory). Have written directions to each of the restaurants (give copies to each group driver) and possibly we could all do a Cruise down Woodward Avenue before we breakup to go to our designated restaurants by a certain time frame.
It may seem like an "off the wall" suggestion but I think it could work. When preparing for the group random draw, you might want to keep the 'singles' separate from the 'couples'................just a thought." Mbepic/Roy

I was checking jalopnik.com last night and ran across this page discussing the Prowlers on Woodward:

Underneath the article, these pics are shown:
FP (and a trail of Crossfires) crusing Woodward alongside the Prowlers:

apkano (and a trail of Crossfires) . . . :

Not sure if anyone has seen these before or not.
Cheers.

Ann, I was not being critical of you.........I know you must have your plate full and Woodward weekend should not be the highest priority in your life.
I just raised this suggestion publicly because the alternate 'large group at one restaurant' appears to not be too easy to resolve. We appreciate what you have done for the Saturday night.
If you locals can come up with a suitable number of small 'informal' eateries that we could use for smaller groups, (we would need written directions for each of the eateries, directing each small group from a central point at the end of the Woodward Avenue drive. I would certainly be willing to help plan the process for getting us into small groups Hopefully meeting at the Marriot Hotel at a predetermined time should not be an obstacle for us getting organized into those smaller groups.
What do all of you, who are arriving on the Friday (by late afternoon), think of this suggestion??? You don't have to stay at the Marriott, just be there to organize into small groups for dinner get togethers later.

We won't need directions to each of these other establishment. So many of us have GPS's in our cars that all we would need is an address. That may make this task a little simpler.
Roy,
Not a problem at all
I just got side tracked. I thought it was better to post your idea. Since everyone is going to take part in the weekend it was logical that everyone give their input. More ideas and helping hands are a good thing

Absolutely right about the GPS and the two-way radios should also help keep the groups together.
Me ,FP and Crossfirefrank will be arriving around 3 to 4 pm on Friday at the Marriott.
We will check in and then look for the others already there.
I am open to most anything as far as dinner on Friday.
What I do hope for is that most everyone (locals to) will congregate around the Crossfires back at the hotel for some tailgating
after dinner and some cruisin (crawlin') on Woodward.
Bring along a folding chair and my coupe will have a large cooler stocked with COLD BEER and soft drinks as well.
As some of you know I provided BEER last year and remember I don't drink so more for the rest of ya.
Cant wait to see everyone rain or shine !!

Don't forget about the Chrysler Museum at 12:00 on Friday... or has that changed? I plan to see it during my visit, probably Friday afternoon unless...

There is no organized plan for this but the folks going should work this out if they are going as a group.
Otherwise just go at your leisure.
My checklist hanging on the fridge:
-- FRS Radios
-- extra AA Batteries
-- GPS (two)
-- Camp chairs
-- Umbrellas
-- Playmate cooler
-- Cell phone w/ car & wall chargers
-- Camera w/charger & memory cards
-- more AA batteries
-- Sunglasses
-- Flashlights
-- CASH
-- MASTERCARD/VISA
-- Spray detail wax
-- plenty clean car wash towels
-- clean clothes (optional)
-- TBA
-- TBA
-- ETC...
I have a (coffee table) hardback Chrysler Museum Book I am bringing along if anyone would like to look through it. My local dealer was giving them out a few years back. Nice History.
