Are you really trying to blame Gary for any of this? For future reference, anytime you plan to go to an event, whether it be a wedding, car show, or comic con, and someone has set up a hotel for you to stay in at a discounted rate, they have signed a contract for the hotel to block of a certain amount of rooms until an agreed upon date at which the rooms will become available to the general public.


Gary went out of his way to help you, and to blame him for a misunderstanding is a slap in the face.

 

And I have TRIED to warn everyone (mostly on Facebook as this thread is Gary's) for MONTHS that it will be us, the Gens and the Fiats (as well as the usual hikers and tourists) that weekend. There are only so many rooms there.

I know one fall, I think it was 2013, the rooms ran out WAY ahead of the event - and we had people in Robbinsville, in the campground by the river AND at the little-known hotel/motel/whatever it is at Deal's gap.

I REALLY don't see how this is Gary's fault, I DO know the Lodge reservation desk has historically been all confused and I have had to call our contact up there to 'fix them'. The person at the desk sees that our reserved rooms are all taken - but fact is, if there are more rooms still open, they always give us more rooms at the discounted rate than are on the contract - till the deadline (and even after it, if they are not filling rooms very well). It appears that even with the new management, confused staff is still an issue.

 

Well which is it Wayne??? You either called them or you didn't call them . . . One of us is confused . . .

 

I posted this back in early July , yep I did ,Gary dose a great job with the fall meet , and with out Gary this would of never ever been any more meets after Sliver fox decided to drop out from having the Fall meet , many years ago and would bet if anybody would still like come that could be arranged but you need to get it done in the next few days

 

Gary, you do a great job putting this event together. You spend more time and effort than anyone I know to make things work smoothly for everyone. If someone doesn't want to make an extra effort to attend, I guess they really didn't want to in the first place.

RED DOG, you need to get your facts straight, you are the one confused.
This is another situation that I have no control over, just like the hotel booking.
I tried to book a room, they told me none are available, Gary tried to help, I turned it down, so I will not be there.
I did nothing wrong, I apologize for nothing, end of story. I hope ya'll have a good time.

 

I did not book mine until July 25th and they had no problem getting me a room!

And I was three months behind getting it done!

 

NO messages have been deleted, I just read the thread and nothing is missing.

If you think this is Garys' fault, then I suggest YOU set up a GTG of this size and see what it is like when you work so hard for people and they pull **** like this as their "thanks". Your issue is with the damn Lodge and problems with reservations are nothing new up there - I've had to deal with it the past two Dragons I arranged; and the Gens have told me of their problems as well.

How can you turn a simple reservations issue into a public diatribe against Gary? I was on your side until you said this.

The words "ROOM BLOCK" or "WHILE THEY LAST" should be an indication or clue that we DO HAVE a specific pre-determined number of rooms allocated for our group
It has been this way each and every year Spring and Fall since 2007 with a contract agreement.
If you called the main onsite reservations desk on the Fontana property you also could have spoke with the on site reservations manager if needed but instead you somehow connected with offsite reservations who are fairly new and as it appears not well suited to handle GROUP reservations .
I have already addressed this matter with Fontana management and they are now fully aware what has happened in your situation and have even extended an apology for the inconvenience

Fact is......
Fault does not lie with those (me) who made the agreement with them
Fault lies with you for not reading or interpreting post #1 clearly as to a "room block" (pre-determined number of rooms allocated for our group)
Stay home and be angry and pout etc. because you have no sympathy from me after your attitude and behavior here.
