FRANC'S FOURTH ANNUAL OFF ROAD ADVENTURE IN NORTH CAROLINA....

At the Fall Dragon meet; Fontana

Jim and Trish have invited us to their mountain place in North Carolina.
Not really off road...
So, once again we have a Franc's Off road experience set for Friday, September 29th.
Officially this is a freebie but token gifts are encouraged for our hosts.
We will leave the Lodge about 9:30 and arrive for lunch at 12:00 or so.
Plans are to stay until 3:00 or when the police arrive.
Jim suggested rain could again be an issue so this event may move to Saturday at the last minute.
The Crossfire Deck , Jim built for us two years ago, is huge but last year the rain forced us inside.
Our raucous crowd just fit in the large house.
All are welcome, including crotchety old Canadians.
PM me with your names so I can form a list and prepare Jim's wife Trish for the invasion.

That "off road" run is always desperate for fools and crazy folks. More the better. You and Susan will fit right in.

Don't worry, everyone, it won't be like the first time (fall of 2013) - he found paved roads all the way since then.

(You won't ever live that one down, Franc....)

 

No I won't. And unless I can top that route, we will stay on paved roads.


Don't press me as I have found a "back way" into that Mountain Chalet.

Putting an address into your GPS for this event will get you lost. If you can't be with us when we leave the lodge, get out your GPS, and put these coordinates into it.
This will take you to a secondary road off US 64 about 8 miles east of Franklin, NC.


If you cant make these coordinates work, then go to "Settings" and change the format to "Degrees Minutes Seconds" which looks like this in the Garmin GPS panel:
h ddd mm' ss.s

Put in:
N 035 05' 58.6 and W 083 32' 59.7 Some GPS's will insist you put in the leading 0's and some won't.
This will take you within 150 feet of the arch above their driveway. Look for the Crossfires in the driveway/field some 250 or more feet past the arch.

Exact position is below, but most GPS's don't do down to .01 seconds of resolution so I left the last digit off my instructions above.

 

Thanks PIZZA. Yes it is hard to find. I got lost one time even though I have been there.


Truly in the mountains a lovely home Trish and Jim designed and built.


Last Year they had live music contracted but, the rains were so bad the band did not show. I'm not sure what they have for us this year.


If weather is mild the huge CROSSFIRE deck will accommodate a lot of us. Otherwise the home is quite spacious.


This is a free event. Jim and Trish did well in life and like to share with friends. I recommend a gift for our hosts. Not mandatory but a local common table wine from where you live is perfect. I know they like Semi sweet reds and Rieslings. Chardonnays.


Not mandatory, just polite.




I do hope everyone enjoys the day. I'll try to keep the trip down to the Chateau on the hard stuff.
