Nobody is onsite as the property has been vacated by the owners.
They decided to surrender there lease back to the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) as of June 1
This is a result of being closed since March due to the Pandemic and loosing all revenue to sustain there lease.
Just gonna wait through the summer months for any updates to the future of Fontana Resort

Here's a link to an article that provides some additional information on the Fontana Village Resort & TVA.

OK, but that article said 8 staff members remained working taking calls from folks on summer reservations. My goal here was to see if any of our people have been contacted. And if so, what was communicated?

So if anyone is contacted please post what transpired...

I doubt the facility has made any attempt to contact reservations made going out 3-4 months. The minimal staffing on site most likely is contacting upcoming reservations going no further than 2-3 weeks. That provides sufficient notice to parties of an upcoming booking that is cancelled due to the lodge unavailability.

Since TVA's core business is not in the lodging vertical, they need a suitable Tenant to handle the ongoing management of Fontana Village Resort & Marina (we sort of forget that there is also a marina that needs to be handled / finding a Tenant that has the skills to handle both properties adds to TVA's search). Considering the time required to identify a suitable tenant, and then the costs & timing associated with getting the lodging property in the condition required (there will be health dept inspections to pass since the lodge hasn't been used for quite a few months) to begin honoring upcoming reservations and/or taking new bookings from the general public, I'd say our Fall ToD Weekend GTG is in jeopardy. But I'm hopeful TVA can pull this off. Like others, I will be following this thread closely in the upcoming months.

There WILL be a fall meet. It may be in Johnson City or somewhere else -but there WILL be a fall meet.
But things are way too fluid right now to hammer down ANYTHING. I realize this will harm attendance, but we simply cannot make plans right now.

This is great news to hear! Fontana Lodge isn't the only place that can accommodate our group.

The Canadian/US Boarder still closed. But we are still hopeful for the fall Dragon ride if we can cross into the USA and we don't have to isolate 14 days when returning to Canada. But my time is booked off to attend Dragon. We have Hope and it is a good thing. "Hope" to see everyone in the fall, we have attended once (2018) and really enjoyed our time there and meeting new people. Fingers Crossed.

The Dragon meet is uncertain right now because Fontana lodge is no longer open and currently there are no owners operating the facility
See some previous posts in this thread
There are several months between now and the event but will have to see what happens

Due to COVID and the response to it, we cannot yet make plans for a fall Dragon.
Additionally, Fontana Lodge is closed and may not re-open until 2021.

At this point, I am reserving October 1 to 5 as vacation time, without knowing for sure what will happen - I suggest others do so as well.

From where we stand now, I suspect there will be no actual Dragon, but there may very well be a Fall 2020 "Snake" in Johnson City, Tennessee.
You can read threads in this section about past "Snakes" to see what the event would be like. I hope to make up my mind by the end of July and will post here what I come up with. As of last week, the hotel was still open to sign a contract and host an event. Let's see what happens with COVID by the end of July.

I will post at the end of July what we came up with.

In October 2018 I attended a Prowler Tail of the Dragon National Event, About 40 Prowlers were there. We stayed at Fairfield Glade. (East of Cookeville). It was a fairly long drive to the Dragon, but lots of other cruises and places to see closer to the resort.
Just an idea.

could always try the back of the Dragon in Tazewell Virginia or Marion , one of the other things about that for the guys coming out the North down 75 you would hit 64 over to Mtn. Parkway through Eastern Kentucky which in self is fun Drive , just a suggestion , I may do it anyway late Fall or first of Nov. with few friends who are sport car enthusiast ,

If I go with anything other than Fontana/DRagon, it will be Johnson City/SNake! THis is because I know the roads and have been there. We spent four days this last time - never ran all the roads we intended to.

The BOTD is an option, but I've not been up there and am not going to invite people on a weekend that I have not "checked things out" first. One of the things about these meets, is that people expect the organizer(s) to have a plan.

ANYONE who wants to step up and do a BOTD meet - go for it! I will attend as a participant only - don't expect me to lead my first time there.

If you have only seen The Dragon on YouTube those videos don't do the road justice. I have watched even the videos I have recorded and they are very boring compared to actually feeling what the car is doing while driving. Hope you can make it to an event soon.

I am going to TRY to nail down plans for an event in a few days. It is OBVIOUS that many are interested in a fall event in the Smokies - I wish we could be at Fontana and have a good ole "Dragon" meet - but Fontana is out (Dedwards laid out the reality well in his post).

I have a few ideas, two of which were posted in this thread. I am going to make some calls and do some homework - I hope to post a new thread in a few days. If you, like me, still go to one of those "Job things", reserve October 1 to 5 as time off!
