I may have a conflict brewing, and may have to back out, but won't know for a week or two. Rooms always pop open at the last minute.

Call the Fontana Lodge, availability of rooms and cabins/houses changes daily. Some people rent 2 and 3 bedroom cabins and want to share cost with others. Post here on the Forum if you are interested in doing that. You can also rent a cabin and then seek others to share it. Tapoco Lodge is close but pricy. Regular hotel rooms in Robbinsville, NC.

Planning on trailering in. Directions brings me down the Tail, from TN, I suppose it is fine for trailering? I drive semis occasionally.

Ya will find trailering difficult on the Dragon
Coming from Tennessee it is the only way there though unless ya add a couple hours to your trip using alternative routes
Just drive the SRT there and forget the trailer

Years ago, when I was working to support Alcoa in the Knoxville Area, I took US-129 on my return trip home. Probably 1/2 way thru ToD, I came across a State Trooper who informed me that a single-wide mobile home was coming thru with escort a few miles behind him & I should get to a curve with a wide shoulder section to sit & wait for it to pass. What a sight when it came by me headed to TN!

THen check with your semi community about that road. I know of NONE Of us who trailer thru the Dragon. If you come in near mid-day, you may be fine. If you come in around 5-7pm, sucks to be you OR to be anyone who meets you in a curve.
If you are over the line, you are liable for anything that happens (and you WILL be over the line about 150 times in 11 miles).

Herei is what I'd do: Set GPS for Tellico Plains. Once there, set it for RObbinsville, NC. Once there, enter lodge address. Given you will travel the Dragon at 15mph, and my route you will average 45-50, I don't think the time difference is going to to be two hours, maybe an hour - but you won't be as stressed and your accident risk is about 1/250th this way. Do not leave Tellico PLains expecting gas in the next 56 miles!

We look forward to yet another first timer, you will NOT regret this weekend, but if you show up Friday night and leave Sunday morning you may ask yourself why you even bothered. Try to get there Thursday - it's way worth it.

Good to hear. Thursday evening is usually very relaxed. We will be down at the Grill from about 5pm to 9pm and some will be up wandering around the lodge, but you can find us in either location all evening.

If you arrive Thursday, this would be a GREAT adventure on Friday. By the time you get back, the Friday arrivals will be rolling in.
I won't have my "Road to NoWhere" run on Friday, nor will I do a Skyway run.

This run will be the "big run" of Friday. And the fact we've never done means it's FINALLY something new for us.

So far it doesn't, but if that changes, I will certainly let him know.

We now have solid plans for Friday. There will be Two big, full runs and two mini runs, this should accomodate all attendees on Friday.

1) Chimney Rock, NC - Dennis Leading. You must sign up and pay for this one before the event, link to this run is below. If you are not on the forum, message me here and I'll pass your info to Dennis - but you pay him directly and instructions are in the link below.

2) Skyway - Dragon - Mr Harding Leading (SRQFUN). The classic and maybe most popular run we have. You see the Skyway, Dragon, and lunch in Tellico Plains. Optional stops are: Bald Rive Falls, The Lost Sea, you can also visit a nice liquor store, supermarket and pharmacy. A stop at the Deal's Gap souvenir stores usually happens.

3) Road to Nowhere - Partrick Madigan leading. This is about an hour ride to Bryson City, then to the END of the road. On the way back, you pass thru BC again for optional shopping and lunch is either in BC or back at the Lodge (or in between!) Arrive back by noon-1pm.

3A) Dragon - Lookout Tower - Patrick Madigan leading. When his group gets back from Bryxon City, he will regroup in the Lodge parking lot for this run. You go down Hellbender to the Gap then down the Dragon and up the Parkway to the Observation tower. You then come back thru the Dragon, optionally stop at Deal's Gap to throw money into stuff you don't need but want, then back to the lodge by 430-500.

THE SKYWAY RUN will be REPEATED on Saturday, probably led by myself. We will probably have a Franklin/Wayah Road run and may have a Cade's Cove run as well as a Devil's Triange run Saturday as well. Sunday is always a question mark. Depending on who stays till Monday or later, there may be a long run that day as well, but there will certainly be several shorter runs that you can break away at lunch and head home, if you live within six - eight hours of the lodge.

There may be a "British Run" led by Zachary and there is talk of a "Cade's Cove" run as well. Im kinda hoping someone does the "North Georgia 8" thing as well.
