Default Stereo Upgrade in Roadster

Any suggestions on stereo upgrades for the Roadster? The stereo is just not loud or crisp enough when flying down the highway at 80 mph with the top down.

I'd like a new head unit, preferably something that matches color wise... is there anything like that? I don't know if I want to get one with a screen yet... depends on if I go with a backup camera or not. I will probably get satellite and plug in my mp3 player but every decent aftermarket head unit allows that now.

Also, speaker suggestions? Something loud and with some bass? Is there anywhere we can squeeze a small sub in? Other than the truck whose little space is already precious to me.

I installed one of these... Pioneer 4800 - the 4900 is out now... the bezel color is close enough for me, and I'm getting an iPod adapter soon.

You can also get a Satellite adapter and control it direct from the head unit. No advice on Speakers, although I'm tempted to try a small subwoofer behind the passenger seat. Kenwood and JVC make some small ones.

Yeah, most Pioneer head units work well with satellite radios and being able to control them from the head unit. They all also have the aux adapter you can purchase to run any mp3 player or the ipod adapter.

I'd love to hear from someone that found a way to squeeze a sub in the cab of a roadster somewhere and how much space they really lost.

I also have that headunit, check my gallery for pictures. I really like it a lot but it almost has a "cheap" feel to me. Putting the sub somewhere, I'm not really sure. I know you cannot put it in the trunk do to a metal plate being in the way, which negates any bass.

Cheap feel huh? I'll just have to go find one to look at then.

Both of those sub options look interesting, especially the one with the passive radiator. Any idea if those will actually fit anywhere though?

I don't feel that the radio feels cheap - you should really check it out yourself. If you read the Crutchfield ads carefully, there are specs, and reader reviews for both, as well as owners manuals for both. It looks like the JVC unit will definitely fit under/behind the seat - and the Kenwood might work behind the passenger seat.

Well I'll probably go take a look at head units this weekend. Regarding the sub options, I looked over the specs, but it's still hard to be sure whether it will really fit or not when it's that close of a fit. I'm not familiar with the contour lines of the crossfire under and behind the seat. Just wondering if anyone actually had something.

Also purchase a Mopar wind screen that will eliminate a lot of wind noise.

How much is one of those? Are they the same as the ones on eBay or at: www.windblox.net. Those are $72 - $78 and you can get them tinted, etc.

i went with the kenwood dvd/nav setup, got it from crutchfield for $1,250 delivered with wiring harness antenna adapter and tools to do it yourself. the nav is a garvin/kenwood unit and the screen is 7 inch. the receiver being black isn't so bad in my car, the black dash, carpet etc. there are infinity sub's behind the seats in the ltd roadster.

I'd be worried about the screen blocking too much. Is that not the case?

Also, I'm upset that I missed out on the subs. Does anyone have more details on them? Type, size, etc.? Anywhere I can find them?

It is optical clear Lexan does not block what little view you already have. Also it can be left in position when the top is up.

So your unit must no have the Navigation System in it??? Our stereo at times when turning it up to around 25 or 26 shuts itself down for a bit. At first thought it may be a fuse, but was not. Must be some sort of "override" to protect the speakers.

That sucks.

No, I don't have the navigation. I was thinking about installing a JVC KDAVX2. It has a 3.5" screen and a DVD player and is regular DIN size. That way I could still watch DVDs without blocking any of my AC controls with a popup. Costco has them for only $349 online.
