Default RPMs

I just bought a 2005 limited roadster (Black with red & gray seats) automatic with 5,000k miles. I notice at 70 mph on the highway the tach has 2,700 rpms. This seems high. My other car, '04 GP, is about 1,800 rpms at 70 mph. Does anyone know if this is normal for the roadster? Also before I take it to the dealer I noticed the gear indicator on the dashboard is not indicating what gear I'm in. Do I need to turn this on or should it be on automatically.
